“It’s our position that there should be law-enforcement officers in schools,” said Jason Pappas, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9. “To have civilians with guns in schools who could be mistaken for an active shooter only causes confusion for law enforcement.”

Shouldn't be much of a problem. Since when do the "law-enforcement officers" show up when the shooter is still active.

Only those who can qualify to carry should be allowed to teach.

Dear God in heaven, if I can be a school crossing guard in 6th grade, surely adult persons can be trained to be armed guards in schools. We had the spiffist red jacket with white ‘browning belt’ to wear over our street clothes and the standard issue stop sign. :-)

Being a buckeye myself, this doesn’t surprise me. Ohio is definitely RKBA country. I think teachers should be authorized to carry in the classroom if they can pass the same CCW class that every other Ohioan has to pass. I’m all for giving them the extra training but it shouldn’t be a pass/fail course. If it must be, ample opportunity for remedial training should be available to ensure that any teacher with will is given the means.

The truth is that there would not have to be an armed school employee in every school in a particular school district- simply stating that a school district had armed employees on numerous campuses would provide sufficient deterrent. I envision a school protection system somewhat like how air marshals work on planes. You never know which employee is an air marshal, but you know they may be there.

My wife is a very dedicated Ca teacher, an archery instructor and has great skills and much much experience with firearms. She would attend, at our expense, whatever training and certification courses that are necessary for her CCW to be recognized in schools. She would love to be able to carry her handgun while at school but this state would much rather our children and teachers remain unprotected and any potential murderers unchallenged for the first and most deadly few minutes until local LEO can respond.

So tell me again how important it is to protect our children... I’m listening.....

There is no other option out there that will provide protection for our children right now or even in the near future.

Teachers should have union dues range time fees automatically deducted from their pay checks.
