Fearful of ban, frenzied buyers swarm gun stores
Associated Press ^ | Dec 28, 2012 8:57 PM EST | Joseph Pisani

The phones at Red’s Trading Post wouldn’t stop ringing. Would-be customers from as far away as New York wanted to know if the Twin Falls, Idaho gun shop had firearms in stock. Others clamored to find out if their orders had been shipped.

Overwhelmed, gun store manager Ryan Horsley had to do what no employee would ever think of doing just days before Christmas: He disconnected the phone lines for three whole days. …

The phones at gun shops across the country are ringing off the hook. Demand for firearms, ammunition and bulletproof gear has surged since the Dec. 14 massacre in Newtown, Conn., that took the lives of 20 schoolchildren and six teachers and administrators. The shooting sparked calls for tighter gun control measures, especially for military-style assault weapons like the ones used in Newtown and in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting earlier this year. The prospect of a possible weapons ban has sent gun enthusiasts into a panic and sparked a frenzy of buying at stores and gun dealers nationwide.

Assault rifles are sold out across the country. Rounds of .223 bullets, like those used in the AR-15 type Bushmaster rifle used in Newtown, are scarce. Stores are struggling to restock their shelves. Gun and ammunition makers are telling retailers they will have to wait months to get more. …

I predict a mass wave of ice fishing accident this winter and thousands of canoe/boat accidents this spring

You also gotta use "Glock" and "AK47" in there and throw-in a picture of a '62 Plymouth Valiant. Then, you're hired!

I'm still wondering: How did the murderer use the ar 15 in Newtown?

As ballast in the trunk?

I'm serious, did he or did he not leave the ar15 in the car?

That was negligent of me - my black powder black rifle is a Glock, and I didn't even mention it:

I got a box with 25 rounds of 12 ga bullets for my fully automatic pump action AK-45 Glock assault pistol, and I'll bet there's not another gun shop in the country that has those bullets in stock.

Better? And that 1960 Plymouth Valiant is one heck of a car, isn't it? It's even more modern than Obama's political philosophy, which originated in London 112 years earlier, published in German by two Prussians, and Obama's clever share-the-wealth ideas are the most stylish and modern ideas in America according to our heroes in the media!

I was thinking the same thing. When economic stats are released for December, they will no doubt reflect the run on firearms and ammo. Obama. Will take credit for ‘signs of a retail sales upswing’.

You don't watch enough mainstream media to keep up with this story. The story that he left the AR15 in the trunk was replaced by a story that the AR15 was the only weapon he used to shoot anyone except himself. The story that his brother did the shooting was replaced by the story that he did the shooting and his brother was never there. The story that his mother taught in the school was replaced by the story that she had volunteered there a few times. The story that the response time was 20 minutes was replaced by the story that the response time was only one to six minutes. Go to the media - they put all the facts out there . . . if you can find the right ones.

Leave it to the AP drama queens to describe gun purchasers as "frenzied buyers".

Actually I am impressed that the AP was able to link cause and effect. I half expected them to drown in their liberal cognitive dissonance and produce a headline that said "Despite calls for a ban, gun sales on the rise". LOL.

According to the ME’s presser, he used to AR-15 to do all the killings. They found another long gun in the trunk. Look at the shells being racked-out; look like 12ga.

This article says he had the AR-15 and 2 handguns w/ him, and a shotgun was found in the car:

and

Here’s the vid of the long gun in the mother’s car’s trunk:

I messed it up twice; my only excuse is that one of the (many) pistols in my arsenal is a .45.

I got a box with 25 rounds of 12 ga bullets for my fully automatic pump action AK-47 Glock assault pistol, and I'll bet there's not another gun shop in the country that has those bullets in stock.

With that many errors, maybe I do belong in the media.

...or the AP is trying to disuade buyers by alleging there is nothing to buy.

AP is nothing but the news for NYC.

that is too nuanced. think “low information voter” and bullets is just fine a word.

The REAL story here is: AP reporting the USA is out of bullets. It is to show there is no argument bullets left for protecting the second.

This more goebles-esque story than information story.

Fearful of a ban?

I think fearful of an oppressive government would be a more accurate statement.

You save and save to get a nice military style rifle.

You are within a hundred of getting it!

Suddenly there is a run on the market and the price doubles!

So what do you do? Go into debt to get one or do without.

How I do it...

Buy the rifle.

Hide it in the closet for six months, then bring it out.

The wife says...”Where did you get that!”

You say, Oh I’ve had this for six months. Don’t you remember?”

Works for me.

Oh, I don’t have a big problem with using the word ‘bullets’ for ‘cartridges.’ But when they start compounding it into a new phrase like “round of bullets” how can you not laugh in their faces? Where do you buy a ‘round of bullets?’ The Bullet Bar? Are you buying a ‘round’ for the house? ;-)

I noted to a friend that there were no .223 or 9mm cartridges left in town (not much of an exaggeration) because of panic buying. He said that 30-06 and 45ACP ammo was still around because people who use those calibers don’t panic.
