Sam Swicegood, a Pizza Hut delivery man in Maryland fought off a group of attackers as he was attempting to deliver pizzas, and what happens? Pizza Hut gave him a demotion.
According to Swicegood, he was sucker punched, which caused his glasses to “fly off.” He then dropped the pizzas he was carrying and began to swing a small piece of a tent pole he had at his attackers, while covering his face. Its a little fiberglass road I had up my sleeve not thinking I would actually have to use it but more or less having a little comfort up my sleeve, recalled Sam.
Swicegood faced five attackers and said those odds “is just not a good situation to be in.”
He said, “I thought I was about to die.”
The attackers fled without his money or his pizzas. However, Fox News Insider says that Pizza Hut cut his hours and his pay for violating their “no weapons policy.”
The local Fox affiliate in Baltimore reported, “During the days that followed Pizza Hut made Sam a cook, slashing his hours and salary. Sam had violated Pizza Huts weapon policy which states that a driver cannot be armed.”
Swicegood is college student simply trying to make ends meet delivering pizzas. He said, I was making about 11 or 12 dollars in tips, which helped pay for college.
Im not saying we should arm all delivery drivers, but Im saying that punishing delivery drivers for defending themselves as theyre being attacked is unjust.
It is unjust.
In November, one of Sam’s co-workers was held at gunpoint and robbed in the same area that Swicegood was attacked. So far 3 of the 5 individuals that attacked Swicegood have been arrest. They are all juveniles.
Not that I’m a fan of Pizza Hut, but I’ll take my business elsewhere when I’m purchasing pizzas from now on until they make this right. After all, Sam and people like him are performing a job for them and in these cases they are doing it by putting their lives on the line, literally. This is just one more area where if the company wants to exercise the right to disarm their employees they should be able to also be sued if the employee is attacked for the company’s failure to provide adequate protection. Otherwise, allow people to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
In America, and especially liberal MD, “no good deed goes unpunished,” and now so does self-defense.
How do you get demoted from pizza delivery? What the h311 is below that?
WARNING PIZZA HUT driver wannabes.
Drive for a company that values YOUR life!
my question also
Yeah, but he got the greatest promotion of all...to continued living.
I was thinking the same thing. How do you demote a pizza delivery man? Make him deliver on foot?
For all those who have been asking: “Pizza Hut made Sam a cook.” Less pay and loses tip income, apparently.
“Fiberglass road” road?
“If the company wants to exercise the right to disarm their employees they should be able to also be sued if the employee is attacked for the companys failure to provide adequate protection”
Yes, this policy probably came from one of their Effing lawyers who wouldn’t even eat their product, but makes a good buck designing “rules” that “protect” the company at the expense of it’s employees.
I’ll bet there are a lot of muggers that are glad to know about Pizza Hut’s no weapons policy.
Obviously, the company doesn’t want to be involved in a law suit if one of their employees injures an attacker. So they let the poor delivery man open for attack.
Odds are employees have signed documents, recognizing that the company cannot protect them, so if a driver ends up seriously harmed, they cannot look at the company for compensation.
probably a livestock sorting stick. 4-5 ft long beefy and
has a nice heft.
Like liberals, pizza hut could care less if their drivers get murdered. They’ll just hire someone else.
A driver’s widow and children or an injured driver should sue them for a purposefully designed, deadly working enviornment. States should make laws against employers denying drivers’ second amendment right to self defense.
A policy of no self defense is a policy of death.
I saw him on the news. His story is a bit weak as he tells it.
There are two sides to every story and his lacks credibility.
“How do you get demoted from pizza delivery?”
My first thought too.
