GOP unlikely to oust Boehner as speaker of the House (so saith establishment)

It’s a truth that fire-breathing conservatives will have to handle: John Boehner isn’t going anywhere as speaker of the House. …

When Boehner walks onto the House floor on Jan. 3, there’s an outside chance he‘ll see low double-digit defections—and those in and around his camp recognize it. The speaker’s fate has become a much-discussed topic as the fiscal cliff approaches and the Senate conducts last-minute talks this weekend—so far without a deal—to avoid across-the-board tax hikes. But even staunch conservatives admit what’s become abundantly clear within the House Republican Conference.

“John Boehner is our speaker,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who has one of the most conservative voting records in the House. “Harry Reid may not like it, but he is our guy.” Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who had a turbulent tenure atop the chamber, put it more bluntly: “I think somebody could run. They would get some votes. And they would lose.” …

IINM, was not Chaffetz exposed as a RINO a while back? Don’t see how he could say that “Harry Reid may not like” Boehner being speaker when he clearly loves it. The real conservatives told Boehner’s Plan B where to go, too.

I doubt they will too. I never took the talk seriously. It would be nice to see Boehner leave the leadership and take his 99 percent district win with him. However, I don’t see it happening. I know at one point the Democrats tried to get rid of pelosi and that failed too.

What are “fire-breathing conservatives”?
Is there a comparable term for the communist Democrats?

Damn shame we have no fire-breathing dragons to unleash on Jake and John...

Kinda’ sucks we’re all so ‘pissed’ but cannot bring about meaningful action.

At this point, we don’t need action, we need inaction. I don’t expect Bohner to move the ball down field, I expect him to stop it from moving at all. Hold the line IOW.

The House GOP under Boehner has controlled the nation’s purse strings for the last two years—and done absolutely nothing to cut spending.

You can expect more do-nothingness from Boehner in the next Congress as well.

"...The speaker’s fate has become a much-discussed topic as the fiscal cliff approaches..."

Now read that line again.....who is discussing Boehner's removal as Speaker? Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer? Nancy Pelosi? the Media and talking heads on the left? Yep! Obama MUST split the GOP in order to take the House back. Freepers, don't fall into this trap...again...take a page from the Progressive hand book: stand as one for the GOP...privately send fax's, letters to your elected - don't publicly chastise them...that is exactly what Obama wants you to do.

Boner supports the fiscal cliff “work around” and he will soon be yesterdays meat, tossed onto the growing pile of political corpses who have succumbed to Obama fear.

Obama must be fought at every step he takes to subjugate our nation to nothing but a socialist dictatorship.

And thats just it. Thats how you fight Chicago crooks who steal elections.Cut off their blood supply, make the parasites die.

Then watch POSHITUS scramble to “save us all” one more time as the opening salvo of his second term of subjugating a free people. They need to run this so called president out on a rail, make him use extreme measures via executive order, make him take refuge in his cobbled together kingship until he self destructs. That should be the goal of every GOP senator, and every GOP member of Congress.

Obama is also busy saving Lbya, Egypt and Syria.Let him bring on the American Spring to try and save us to so America can see what it has for a so called president.

Stand with a party that keeps shifting left no matter what its constituents do or say? Ain’t that a bit like voting “D” notwithstanding? You ask a hard thing of conservatives, and that is to give up their principles for party, and watch their principles continue to be eroded anyhow. (There is a reason I didn’t put this thread in the “GOP Club” forum after all.)

That was my take on it. The next Speaker was either going to be Boehner or Pelosi. And as bad as Boehner is, conservatives weren't going to vote for Pelosi.

It will take an Act of God, or a loss of the House in 2014 to pry him loose.

Boehner or Pelosi?....what’s the difference, both are Obama’s Tax Collector’s to push forward his socialist/marxist aims

If you’re a conservative, I don’t see how you could remain a republican? After the fiasco of the last 5 years, especially after this last election, I’d say you’re boarding on delusional if you STILL think the republican party is going to slow down democrat socialism or advance conservatism.

Perhaps your definition of conservative is overly restrictive. That happens on Free Republic all the time. A narrow, tunnel visioned definition is said to apply when it really does not.

Read the line again and again (#9) until you understand that the Obama machine doesn't care one whit what you, me, and all the other voters in the country want be it Conservative government or Progressive government....he wants the Congress and with it Boehner's head then blaming it on the GOP.

Office of the Speaker
Phone: (202) 225-0600
