Sen. Reid To GOP: "At This Stage We're Not Able To Make A Counteroffer"
Real Clear Politics ^ | December 30, 2012

Posted on 12/30/2012 12:08:20 PM PST by Hojczyk

SEN. MITCH MCCONNELL (R-KENTUCKY): My office submitted our latest offer to the Majority Leader last night at 7:10 p.m. and offered to work through the night to find common ground. The Majority Leader's staff informed us they would be getting back to us this morning at 10:00 a.m., despite the obvious time crunch we all have. It's now 2:00 p.m., and we have yet to receive a response to our good-faith offer.

Now, I'm concerned about the lack of urgency here. I think we all know we're running out of time. This is far too much at stake for political gamesmanship. We need to protect the American families and businesses from this looming tax hike. Everyone agrees that that action is necessary. In order to get things moving, I have just spoken with the Majority Leader. I also placed a call to the vice president to see if he could help jump-start the negotiations on his side.

The vice president and I have worked together on solutions before, and I believe we can again. I want my colleagues to know that we'll keep everyone updated. The consequences of this are too high for the American people to be engaged in a political messaging campaign. I'm interested in getting a result here.

I was here all day yesterday. As I indicated, we submitted our latest proposal at 7:00 p.m. last night. We're willing to work with whoever, whoever can help. There is no single issue that remains an impossible sticking point. The sticking point appears to be a willingness, an interest, or frankly the courage to close the deal. I want everyone to know i'm willing to get this done, but I need a dance partner.

they’ll lay off the private contractors, the ones that do a lot of the real work, before any government employees are let go.

“You and your counterpart Bhoner sat on your ass for months and did nothing,”

Where do you get that information ?

From what I read the Congress passed a bill in May & August to advert this situation, but the dems and pres did nothing. Just like the dozens of jobs bills.

You’re listening the MSNBC too much

The marxists are not negotiating now. They are offering the same sequestration deal again. It’s just up to the useless beltway GOP to decide if they want to accept before the cliff deadline or after.

Well then riddle me this Batman...

If they were serious about sticking to their passed bill, why EXACTLY AND IN DETAIL are we ‘negotiating’ today?

They threw it out there knowing they would be back here today with yet another excuse to ignore it and give the Dems what they want. Because anyone with an ability to reason already understands that the Dems and GOP are now one and the same.

MSNBC indeed.

No wonder the communist piece of crap Obama was watching the movie “Lincoln”.

He was watching "Lincoln" because his first choice,"Mao",was sold out at the local Blockbuster's.

So Boy Wonder, your point in the last post was incorrect then.

““You and your counterpart Bhoner sat on your ass for months and did nothing,””

They had done something but it was the Dems who waited until the last moment to begin negotiating.

Try to place the “blame”, so to speak, on the right people.

Your batcomputer’s logic circuits are on the fritz.

When you spend a bunch of time doing crap you have no intention of standing behind, and then abandon that ‘work’ wholesale, that does not compute to ‘doing something.

At least nothing we sent them to DC to do.

A little less time oogling Catwoman and a little more in a good deductive reasoning course (or a couple hours remedial with Alfred) might be in the interest of the world’s greatest detective, Bruce ;)

When I posted, I figured “Waging war on fellow Americans” covered that, but on reflection, you’re correct. Sherman’s march went beyond “waging war”.

Has anyone ever seen a tax hike the Demodummies didn’t like.

The president doesn’t care about the people or the economy, he cares about the taxes he can impose on everyone. When the bucket runs dry and people are no longer employed, where will that tax money come from?

Listen Dick (Grayson), I wasn’t aware your powers included mind reading - to know a person’s intention, despite the fact that you don’t the person... that is truly fascinating. Your deductive reason looks like opinions.

“When you spend a bunch of time doing crap you have no intention of standing behind, and then abandon that ‘work’ wholesale, that does not compute to ‘doing something.”

Perhaps you need alittle less time with the hooch and keyboard and more time oogling Catwoman. Leave the deductions to the folks with some facts.

Last I looked Bruce, the facts were that the GOP spun it’s wheels a lot, let the Legion of Doom run roughshod over them and just spent the last few days doing a hell of a good Joker imitation.

All while their Plan A-Zs were either abandoned without a fight or just forgotten about entirely. Unless they snuck one by me via the Invisible Man or the Flash. But if they did, I don’t see anyone, including them, voting on it.

Actually, we should just hop in the Bat Boat, head down to the beach and oogle a bunch of super’ettes together. Because for all the good it does either of us, the Batcave is about to get repoed and the Wayne mansion is going to be sold for taxes.

BTW, do these tights make my butt look fat?

I have to agree that the GOP spins its wheels alot, and is really crappy at understanding the strength of their position.

They have no champion / no PR model, and faces like Boehner & McConnell’s who just look sad.

I believe they are trying to negotiate in good faith but the Dems don’t care. Since the Reps are so weak I don’t even know why they play. Strength doesn’t come from capitulation, at least I didn’t think so.

So to your point Dick, I’ll grab the brewskis, you bring the binoculars and I’ll meet you at the beach. BTW leave the tights at home.

Actually this is what I've seen. Harry Reid is a mob-connected criminal.
