Obama: 'Looks Like I'm Going to Be Spending New Year's Here in D.C.' Daniel Halper December 31, 2012 2:12 PM

President Barack Obama tipped his hand today during a speech at the White House ... about how he plans to spend this New Year's Eve.

"Democrats and Republicans in Congress have to get this done," Obama said, according to a rush transcript, referencing the ongoing "fiscal cliff" talks. "But they're not there yet. They are close, but they're not there yet. And one thing we can count on with respect to this Congress is that if there is even one second left before you have to do what you're supposed to do, they will use that last second."

Obama then veered into his New Year's Eve plans. "So as of this point, it looks like I'm going to be spending New Year's here in D.C.," he said. "You all are going to be hanging out in D.C. too."

"I can come to your house? Is that what you said?" the president said, playing off the friendly White House audience. "I don't want to spoil the party. But the -- the people who are with me here today, the people who are watching at home, they need our leaders in Congress to succeed. They need us -- they need us to all stay focused on them, not on politics, not on, you know, special interests. They need to be focused on families, students, grandmas, you know, folks who are out there working really, really hard, and are just looking for a fair shot."

I used to volunteer to take call on New Years Day -- my logic was that if I partied on New Years Eve, I'd need to write the day off anyway, and it gave me immunity from having to take call on Christmas.

Now that I'm older, more gray and "an expert", I'm always on call if a problem becomes complicated. Yes, cry me a river!

I seem to have misplaced my tiny violin, otherwise I’d play him a sad little song.

There are a lot of people who’d appreciate spending New Year’s Eve in a huge historic mansion with staff, cooks, and flowing champagne all paid for. You should fall down and pray thanks that abortions were hard to get in 1961 or you wouldn’t be there to party at all.

Should’a thought of that when you were splashing around in Hawaii a week ago, DB. The Republicans should never repeat the massive mistake that this fiscal cliff deal represented. It went wrong in so many ways, and they made the fatal error of assuming some good faith on the other side.

Do what you usually do Bambi. Pretend you’re working. Go to the Oval Office and watch re-runs of Homeland.

Poor guy has to put up with that rascally Congress.

What's even more infuriating is to think that this BS works on people.

Yeah, because you're so critical to the process.

With any luck next year at this time it will either be in eastern Kansas or southeastern Cuba.

Looking forward to the day when the scoundrel leaves DC for good. Unfortunately, thanks to the dumb masses, he has 4 more years to befoul the White House.

Ain’t that the truth. Barack’s mother would never have wanted to be punished with a baby. . . . but, alas, she obviously was.

Had it been legal in 1963, doubt I would have been here either ....or my kids. What a thought that is of how this has affected multiple generations of people who were supposed to be here, but just aren’t.
