WASHINGTON -- The House will miss the midnight Monday deadline lawmakers set for voting to avoid the "fiscal cliff."
House Republicans notified lawmakers that the chamber will vote Monday evening on other bills. They say that will be their only votes of the day.
President Barack Obama and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Monday they are near a deal to avoid wide-ranging tax increases and spending cuts - the fiscal cliff - that take effect with the new year.

I wish there was a provision that the president and congress don’t get paid until a real, businesslike budget is worked out.
Sure ought to be - along with a provision that says their pay will be cut by 10% for every day they fail to pass a real BUDGET! Pay cut permanent.
The vast majority, if not all, of the posts today regarding the “deal” reference the Senate and Obama—No mention of the House at all. Anyone else find that curious?
Midnight votes remind me of the old Jim Wright days as speaker of the house. He would lead midnight votes like a thief in the night, just like
Bonehead and Cantor. Corrupt SOB’s.
Rats control 2/3 the goobermint but will get less than 1/2 the blame .
Presstitutes and their fuzzy math.
There’s a whole lot of whippin’ goin’ on in there tonight.
Meh. They’ll vote soon and still screw us.
That way they won’t be voting for a tax increase. They’ll be voting on a tax cut.
“I wish there was a provision that the president and congress dont get paid until a real, businesslike budget is worked out.”
Wish there was a provision that says if the budget isn’t balanced, you forfeit the rest of your term in office.
I dont believe any of this hype. I don’t know what is going on but it isn’t a cliff. News media have been working this up for weeks now. Just an excuse to cover up something else.

The GOP should refuse to go along with Obama’s tax and spend scheme LET
It go over the cliff. The House GOP should wait until next year, prepare a new budget PER THE CONSTITUTION and say take it or leave it!!,

Whatever “deal” they come up with, they’re all bandaids that don’t stop the debt from getting trillions of dollars deeper in the decade to come.
This is pure media hype, BS, Caca etc. etc. etc.
OMG!,we’re going over the Cliff;)
not to worry,, FEMA and the FED are standing by..
