SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A San Francisco high school senior is suspended because of a poem she wrote which dealt with the school shooting in Connecticut. What she wrote has left officials with a dilemma.
It was a dark poem and in the wake of the Connecticut tragedy, it raised red flags and triggered a quick response by school officials. Now the student is facing the possibility of being expelled.
"I understand the killings in Connecticut. I know why he pulled the trigger," said Courtni Webb, the suspended student.
**SNIP**
She says she didn't turn in the poem as an assignment. Instead, the teacher discovered it in class and took it to the principal. But Webb says she's turned in dark poems about suicide and sadness in the past with no problem. It's a genre she likes.

Uh, oh. That 'government is a shame' crack could get ya in REAL trouble with the teacher's union.
On the bright side - a California student actually knows where Connecticut is.
Lots of misspellings in a poem written by a “high school” student.
So, un-PC. I’m with you ...
Having chipped away at the 2nd amendment, Statists are now chipping away at the 1st... and the 4th (the teacher “discovered” the student’s poem in class).
The school should be very embarrassed.
They should grade her spelling, but its Kalipornia so they probably don’t grade spelling.
It’s a poem for heaven’s sake. How does a poem hurt someone? The article stated the student enjoys this “genre” and has turned poems in as assignments in the past. Teen girls can look at the world in dark ways. Geez... when I go to pick my son up from high school, half the girls are always crying. It’s the age, I guess.
OK, I’ll give her this compliment:
She wrote it with pen and ink on actual paper.
Look around you at most teens. Pen and paper? No, they’re slumped over their smartphones, staring slack-jawed at the screen or busily clicking away with their thumbs.
At least this girl wrote something archival and non-electronic (as poems have been written for centuries).
At one school a kid was arrested and removed from school in handcuffs because he drew a picture of a flaming glove. The cops also went to his house and looked for bomb making stuff. The kid was suspended from school over it.
San Francisco public schools are child abuse.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
Yeats - The Second Coming
Fixed it for you.
They don’t teach spelling anymore. That’s why they can’t spell when they have to hand write something. No spell check.
Did she have a permit for the poem?
The students English teacher should be SLAPPED for competence.. and her eyes POKED.....
They should grade her spelling, but its Kalipornia so they probably dont grade spelling.
They're opposed to spelling, which is a tool of rich white oppression of indigenous and non-white peoples.
Just take a careful look at the posts on Free Republic. A good number of the members of this forum have the written communication skills of a child.
Guns. Writing. Thoughts.
What used to be free exercises of rights are now punished.
I think her English teacher should be expelled, too!
It’s more than obvious what she’s saying, if people would just read her work more carefully. What she is saying is the following:
“Materialism in today’s society, combined with Reagan Administration budget cuts, led to the CT shooting.”
...and for that, she’s suspended.
By the way, she’s black - she’ll have a kick-butt lawsuit against these racist clowns for kicking her out just because of her skin color. I love it!!
