I realize it’s not exactly a controlled sample, but in asking around of people in my area of all ages, very few of them seem to be going out drinking and partying on New Year’s Eve. I asked a number of young people as well as the middle-aged. There was not much traffic on the roads or in town as in years past, the liquor store was relatively quiet considering, and people were not in the clothing stores buying clothes for parties. I’m not sure if this was because the economy is so terrible or if people are just bored with being drunk as recreation or if the proliferation of cops on the road makes it too risky. Everyone said to me, “I don’t want to go out with all the drunks on the road,” but there seemed to be very few on the roads, drunk or otherwise.

Welcome to the Canteen, ottbmare....interesting sampling.

It would be refreshing if folks finally realize they don’t need to drink too much to enjoy themselves.
