Why I Will Vote No On The Senate-Passed Bill:Message from my Congressman - a true Tea Partier
1/1/13

Posted on 01/01/2013 7:37:31 PM PST by bestintxas

In the dead of the night, with no committee hearings, no public input and no time to read the bill, the Senate approved a bill written in secret by President Obama, Vice President Biden, Senator Harry Reid and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi – the “American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.”

According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Senate-passed bill would cost taxpayers $3.9 trillion over 10 years and the Congressional Budget Office estimates that it would add almost $4 trillion in debt over the next ten years. The official estimate is that it will increase spending by at least $330 billion over 10 years.

Incredible.

But this is what President Obama promised, and he is keeping his word. Massive tax increases, massive spending increases, massive increases in our already unsupportable national debt, and no reforms to prevent the certain bankruptcies of Social Security and Medicare.

President Obama and his supporters are accelerating America’s swift descent and our transformation from the world's lone superpower into a bankrupt social welfare state like Greece.

I will fight them every step of the way.

I strenuously oppose the Senate bill, and I am dumbfounded and deeply disappointed that 89 Senators would vote for it. Did any of them read it before they voted for it? How could they? The bill text was made available to offices only a few minutes before the vote. Again, standard operating procedure for Democrats. Remember when Democrats controlled the House and Senate and they rammed through Obamacare and the $880 billion “stimulus” without anyone being given a chance to read those bills?

since I do not know how to extend Body, I will add the rest below:

The Senate-passed bill would raise taxes on everyone making over $400,000 and couples making over $450,000. It would raise taxes by more than $600 billion over ten years compared to 2012 levels. America has a spending problem, and we are living on borrowed money. We need long-term responsible spending cuts, not tax increases. In a few years, we will be spending more on just the interest on the national debt than we will spend on our ENTIRE national defense budget.

I oppose raising taxes on anyone. In August, I was proud to vote for the “The Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act” which would extend all current tax rates and protect everyone in America from ANY tax increase. With my support, this bipartisan bill passed the House by a vote of 256-171. Our common sense economic recovery and tax relief bill has been sitting in the Senate since August, and they have done nothing until this last minute outrage last night.

The House will vote later tonight on the Senate tax bill, and earlier today, the House approved H.R. 6726, a bill I co-authored, which freezes my salary and overturns the president’s Executive Order raising congressional pay. We need a pay freeze and a hiring freeze for the entire federal government, with the exception of our military. This would save a vast amount of money all by itself.

I also introduced a bill today that would reduce federal spending by at least $10 billion dollars. My bill directs the Office of Management and Budget to come up with at least $10 billion in savings using the Government Accountability Office’s 2011 report and 2012 report that have already identified duplicative and inefficient federal programs.

I will continue to work hard to fight President Obama's determined effort to bankrupt our nation, and I will do my best to promote common sense, fiscally conservative alternatives that will dramatically cut spending, cut taxes and shrink the size, power and cost of the federal government. I will always keep my word to represent you as a principled free market fiscal conservative who is committed to the restoration of individual liberty through the restoration of the 10th Amendment.

Sincerely,

John Culberson Member of Congress

The worst part is a tax on those making $400,000 or more , the “Rich”. that is called a progressive tax and is marxism.

To congress,
learn something idiot fool Senators and Congressmen, socialism never works. this is socialism and you are voting for socialism ,in the middle of the night during a holiday, on a bill you know nothing about all to avoid a fake news media created “fiscal cliff” bs. you are complete wastes of space, idiots

“American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.”

The name alone tells me that Americans are about to get it stuck to them by the Washington mob. This can only get ugly.

“I’m deeply disappointed that his Leadership makes his vote moot.

If Boehner bypasses the conservative wing and votes it in by buddying up with the Dems, that leadership will surely change.

I already told my two Senators their approval in the dead of night was condemning.

This bill will be passed by a huge majority of Rats with very few Rino
Monkeys to put it over the top.
They are about to vote now.
I am curious which Rino Monkeys will help the Rats.
I’m guessing Rino Monkeys from Northern Rino safe Districts.

“America has a spending problem, and we are living on borrowed money. We need long-term responsible spending cuts, not tax increases.”

Apparently the lesson the Republican leadership learned from the 2012 election fiasco was that not only could Obama buy re-election, but going forward the only way Repubs could get back in the game is by giving away more freebies than President Foodstamps.

We are watching the weaving of a European-style “safety net”, which is simply cradle-to-grave dependence, and our economy is reacting as Europe’s has done: the high unemployment, low birthrate, and inflation are here to stay. On Election Day America said “no” to the austerity measures that our European counterparts are trying to implement; rather than have productive people flee from one state to another to avoid state taxes, they will now be drowned in federal taxes.

If they (Rs) weren’t so delusional by making believe the taxes were not going up automatically they could have made a stand on cutting spending instead, but they (too many) decided to put all their chips on this certainly losing hand opposing an partial extension by calling a partial tax cut extension ‘raising taxes’.

All the GWB tax rates all went up at midnight last night so now they can vote for this bill which is much worse than plan B, the bill that they opposed a couple weeks ago, and now say for sure that they ‘cut taxes’.

Add this ‘No’ vote to all of this R Houses symbolic votes.

John Culberson Is outstanding.
We need more like him.
We elected Conservatives to stop this crap, and John Culberson's doing it. "COMPROMISE" is a DIRTY WORD!

People who study the Bible know that COMPROMISE almost always leads to destruction.
Take a good long look at where "COMPROMISE" and the "Establishment Republicans" ALWAYS take us.

"Texas should just succeed"

How about we lead for now.

If Texas Representatives and Texas Senators were NOT involved in any debate or any input on negotiations then it's pretty clear to me what's going on. The citizens of Texas are being taxed without representation. Merely voting up or down on a bill in which you had no input or any time to consider is NOT representation.

I would like to see a push for Attorney General Greg Abbott to file suit against the federal government. Harry Reid does not get to speak for the state of Texas. John Boehner does not speak for Texas yet he and a handful of others have decided every aspect of this far reaching legislation.

It's time for the state of Texas to demand our interests are fully represented. Abbott needs to sue the federal government on behalf of all the taxpaying citizens of Texas.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but your congresscritter voted ‘yea’.

Don’t feel too bad. My congresscritter did, too. He was supposedly against raising taxes and supposedly a strong supporter of cutting spending.

There are an awful lot of names on the list of ‘yeas’ that surprise the heck out of me. I read part of the Senate’s bill last night and there must have been something I missed that they saw that convinced them this was ok.
Or else they’re ALL hell-bent on destroying the country.

Thanks for the link, which clearly shows the “NO!!!!!!” conservatives in the lot. I visited some of their websites as well... doesn’t mitigate the action of the rinos, but does show who is (I pray) willing to stand up to the so-called leadership in the days ahead. Fwiw!

It’s truly tyranny to set up a bill that can’t be read by anyone to stave off legislative disaster that would occur if there are not enough votes to pass it. This bill could contain language that completely takes away all of our freedoms and we wouldn’t know until it was too late.
