Grover Norquist: Vote for deal is vote to cut taxes
Washington Post ^ | January 1, 2013 | Felicia Sonmez

Posted on 01/01/2013 9:23:46 PM PST by Seizethecarp

Grover Norquist, the Americans for Tax Reform president and anti-tax activist who has become a key figure in the ongoing negotiations on the fiscal cliff, took to Twitter as the House was voting Tuesday night to give his blessing to the deal:

"The Bush tax cuts lapsed at midnight last night. Every R voting for Senate bill is cutting taxes and keeping his/her pledge."

"Congress about to make permanent most of the temporary tax cuts that Democrats voted against in 2001 and 2003. Permanent beats temporary."

Because no one cares.

That’s technically true but what a red herring of an argument to spin this as a good outcome. The spending cuts that were to take place also are gone.

This “sunsetting” business has also got to stop - if they want to change something they should be forced to vote on it cleanly so that can’t be used as an excuse or political football.

DUHHH!

All the taxes went up 24+ hours ago and this lowers some of them.

Delusion is not a plan.
Republicans lose fights with O because they act like fools.

Permanent beats temporary.

Who is he kidding? The Dems get a majority in the House and "permanent" translates to "nonexistent". Spinning this as a victory is simply not credible.

I feel like I am in the twilight zone. Someone needs to make a YouTube video of the contrast between the horrendous destruction happening every day and the way the press reports it like a fascinating observation while sipping tea and in so many words, acting like Obama means well for us but who knows why things are getting worse? The reality is that Paul Revere needs to be riding his horse and shouting with urgency right now.

There are no tax cuts, just no increases on the 98%. This is absolutely a Crock. How about the 31 hidden taxes in Obamacare that apply to everyone who pays taxes?

Ok. This was a disaster, but....was there any good to take from it?Eliminating ATM, making Bush tax cuts permanent, taking away Obama’s argument that everything will be fine once the rich are taxed? Anything else? Perhaps the glaring need for a 3rd party?

Permanent tax cuts?

Until 2014.

When the Democrats take control of the House.

After Obama mandates Amnesty by Executive Order and creates 11 million new Democrat voters.

What is so frustrating is that the conservatives and some republicans cannot or are not willing to develop and market a coherent message of resistance and what their ideas will really create for America.

The middle class will not be saved by this tax and spend scheme. The middle class not only depends on the upper working class for jobs but also for contracts and supplies. If you add another 5 to 10 percent tax to to the upper class to all the other taxes, such as state, local, obamacare, permits, workers comp., payroll, etc., you are just reducing working capital for hiring, expansion and innovation. This tax will only prevent future job hires and create higher inflation. This does not, in anyway help the middle class. Couple the lack of substantial spending cuts and becomes American Suicide forced upon its people by a morally bankrupt criminal societal entity.

Shameful!

$47 in new taxes for every $1 in budget cuts, according to what I’ve been reading. I don’t see how any conservative can endorse this deal.

BINGO!!! Even if the democrats now own this and our economy continues to tank, without taking a stand and creating a coherent message, the left wing media will spin it and the Rebubs will brunt the blame again. This is becoming eerily reminiscent of 1930 Germany.

This isn’t designed to help the middle class.

It’s Marxist.

Have you read the Communist Manifesto?

Marx HATED the middle class. Using his ideas to help the middle class is like using Hitler’s ideas to help the Jews.

What infuriates me is the number of middle classers who back the liberal horde even as that horde sets up to deliver a death punch to the middle class.

Absolutely correct!

I am told on a daily basis by friends, that their friends are so smart and they back this type of crap-sandwich leadership and governing. I tell them that their friends are not that smart. They are part of the problem. The scary thing is, “They are walking the plank and do not even know it.”

I am, too! Most lack common sense. If they are successful, it is almost solely due to lucky timing or the gift of gab. Most cannot even screw in or snap in a “green” light bulb. Common sense and the ability to do multiple things well is what will save America. We need leaders like this to come forward. Sadly, it may be too late.

And, it's (the propaganda) only going to get worse. I saw a commercial tonight for AIG saying they've repaid all of the bail out money. Definitely feels like an alternate universe.

That is because they are not the smartest people in any room. They are just a bunch of con artists. And, we are the ones who have been conned time and again by these creeps.

I am all for sun setting of spending bills. They should have to be renewed no longer than every 4 years.

Tax rate reductions? no sunset.
Tax rate increases? Sunset every 2.

permanent is good, raising estate tax deductions is good......headed to 15 million exempted from taxes is good.....450 is better than 250, I’d say the GOP took a good first step,m let the media and bama say they won....they didn’t, they shared a win and that is how congres works.

“450 is better than 250,”

Right0, 250K was the old rich back with the clintons, based on gold and silver prices, it should be more like 1.5 million today, 450 is probably like the old 90k!

Spending a day in DC, in VA across the river and you’ll see unbelievable economic activity. The activity is spurred by the millions of government workers, Beltway Contractors, and the people that meet their daily needs. Billions and Billions.

Amidst all this are Congressmen and Senators, most of whom have integrated well into this fantasy land. They, especially Senators, attend parties, galas, and enjoy a very high lifestyle. Those that ‘compromise’ are treated to ego-boosting spots on the DC Sunday Shows, editorials, etc.

They think that they can live, work and play in DC and only go home when it’s time to lie on the stump all over their state or district.

The RINOs enjoy the influence and trappings, even if it is second-tier as the “loyal-but-not-too-vocal-opposition.”

A despicable group of people who once may have had honest intentions, but far removed from that now.
