It’s official: Florida has passed the one million mark in issuing concealed carry gun permits – the most of any other state.

In mid-December, Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam released a statement announcing the upcoming milestone and sharing information about the Florida Concealed Weapon and Firearm License Program.

“In 1987, Florida issued its first statewide concealed weapon license after the Florida Legislature established standardized and uniform requirements for the issuance of a concealed weapon license,” said Commissoner Putnam. “Twenty-five years later,...

You'd think that Feinstein et al would get the message. People don't want their guns taken away.

We needs stats on CCW permits per 100,000 population.

I’ll bet Colorado has a higher density of permit holders.

Backlog is now 8 biz days.

"You'd think that Feinstein et al would get the message. People don't want their guns taken away."

Every semi-automatic rifle, every semi-automatic handgun, every box of ammo bought for either, and every new membership to the NRA is a vote sending that same message. There is more than one way to vote. Some are more peaceful than others.

And how many weapons does each CCP holder have? + those who have weapons at home without a CCP. A well armed state but can the holders get together?

I’m still hoping for concealed carry without permits in VA.

Wow!

I believe you, but could you give me a source?

I’d like to know how current this is and be able to track.

Every permit holder I know has multiple weapons. I don’t know anyone with a permit who doesn’t own at least one gun.

Can they get together?? Sadly, I doubt it.

Backlog for background checks or permits?

My background check last week took 15 mins here in Florida.

Forcing you to wait 8 days for a background check is an infringement.

I used 2011 census figures for the general population.

I did a bit of research for a master’s degree project this past summer-came up with about 7.6 million permits (from various sources, exlcuding states that had no figures to report or had non-permitted carry provisions).

So, with a US population of of ~310 million, that comes out to about 2452 permits per 100k population.

(7.6 million permits divided by 310 million US population times 100 thousand)= 2451.6

A few potentailly armed citizens to say the least, of course discounting those who have can but are not carrying, and not accounting for states with no permit required (A few well armed states to say the least).

Store manager said he’d pick up cost, rather than pass it on, unless new law prohibits.

I used this source and others for my calculations back in June 2012 (that I referenced in my post a moment ago).

My friends jerk of a son (22yo) and 3 of his friends all got permits but don’t own any weapons. They thought it would be cool to walk around armed if they wanted to.

As of todays MO DOR monthly report for Dec 2012, there are 160, 184 permits active in the state. I think drilling down to consider only of age (21 on MO unless on active mil duty, then 18 for CCW) would be better, as we can discount all under age kiddos.

Found the updated pop data for 2011, MO pop is ~ 6010628, 6.4% are under 18, so that’s really 5,265,948 “adults”, so the new adult concealed carry rate is as high as 2847 per 100k adults in MO.

Good deal!

Go to your states webpages and see if they post total numbers- would be nice to get all “57” states data in and do it up right...

I’d be glad to compile all the data and come up with a most accurate picture of CCW rates in the US.

That’s a lot of money for someone who doesn’t carry ANY weapons! But, the cool thing about FR is that you can always find an exception to any statement within a few minutes of posting.

Our Florida CCW is sought-after by many nonresidents as it has wide reciprocity - in fact, when I used to live in NY, the local gun store had Florida + Utah CCW classes to obtain licensure recognized in most other states.

So as it looks like this list isn’t 1 million resident permits, but just 1 million permits, the per 100,000 may be closer to Colorado’s.
