Outgoing Louisiana Republican Rep. Jeff Landry told Breitbart News there are at least 17 GOP members who plan to unseat House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday, and Boehner may resign on Wednesday evening during or after a GOP caucus meeting.
** UPDATE -- Boehner is now making concessions in what AMAs Meyer says is an attempt to try to save face. The Hill reports he told Republicans he wont negotiate one-on-one with President Barack Obama anymore.

He won't do any better against Reid, and he was already "smoked out" by Pelosi at least once.

What an idiot this man is.
Save face?
How bout save his ass.
Get rid of this POS promptly.
To think the GOP-e abandoned Allen West.
You were a pitiful leader, Boehner.
The first test of possible success in getting rid of Bonehead will be a
rule change vote. Currently votes are not done by secret ballot.
If a rule change is brought up and passed.
Watch out Bonehead is in trouble.
I was reluctant about Boehner when he got the gavel, but having met him once, he’s been a good congressman, and pretty consistent in his voting record over the years. During the debt ceiling negotiations, I was annoyed at the strategy, but was willing to buy into the idea that our side wanted to go into the election year without a major shutdown-style showdown to give Obama traction.
Instead he was able to use the convoluted results of that debate to remake his image as the reasonable one. This time, I have had it. It is not because he compromised...there has to be compromise. It is that Boehner’s strategy gives up way too much ground EVERY time, and he and his leadership team focuses all their airtime on process, and not selling ideas. Political leadership is about selling a set of policies to the public. We haven’t had any of that type of leadership since Bush 2000, Newt before him, and Reagan before that. Our side has to advance and recruit ONLY leaders that can get on television and make the case for conservative solutions. Boehner is not that guy. Someone else needs to step in.
I thought it might be Ryan, but he continues to go-along-get-along on every major issue. He’s great in his role, and is an asset to our side, but I am nervous about his leadership strength at this point. I give him some leeway as a committee chair, in that he can advance his good solutions at times if he supports the party line at other times...give and take is part of the game. Last night, he easily could have taken a stand, like other leadership, but he chose to stick with the bill as it stands. Ryan might be better if he were in the lead, but my confidence has fallen.
I want to see Allen West as speaker.
He could negotiate with Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and Kim Jong Un simultaneously, while using Leon Panetta as a door mat.
Thats why the GOP RINOS pulled the rug out from under West
through electoral redistricting.
Alan West should be redeemed. His having the Speakership would do it.
Just for the sake of discussion, what would happen if Pelosi regained the Speakership?
We all know the gutless GOP wouldn’t fight, for anything, because they have no spines or convictions. But what would happen with a rabid Dem (instead of the current Dem Lite) leading a Republican-majority House?
Just curious ...
Allen West, Trey Gowdy, Louis Gohmert, Michele Bachmann, Jason Chaffetz and Tim Huelskamp would all be high on my list. But I'd take any member of the Tea Party Caucus.
This is a time to draw that line in the sand and stand up for America. If we don't we are no better than Boehner the deal maker, McCain the deal maker, Dole the deal maker, or any of the other beltway insiders who have forgotten about the citizens paying taxes for them to live like royalty.
I look at it this way. The election for speaker is an open race. Normally, the minority party doesn't bother putting up much of a contest because the majority leaders have been busy making their back room deals since election day. I'd like to see the Tea Party Caucus (TPC) bring this to a bare knuckle fight for power. I'd like them to caucus and agree on a candidate, then hold the insiders' and RINOs' feet to the fire.
I'd wholeheartedly support the idea of the TPC saying we vote for our choice, or we don't vote. That would open the door to the idea of democrats running one of their own for the position and the ball would be in the majority's court. Either they get together and elect a TPC candidate, or hand the speaker ship over to the minority party for the first time ever that I know of.
Showing America that there are members in congress with courage enough to stand up for our country, our constitution and our heritage is long over due. I think it would inspire a great following. It would also bring the debate over Tea Party values to the fore in the media and shed light on their lies about racism and all the other crap they spew about that people like Boehner, McCain, and even Romney would never dare to confront.

If Bonehead made the statements to his caucus, as the article says,
it shows signs of a very desperate man.
I would laugh for one.
I would not be surprised at all to see the GOP surrender its majority.
In fact I would expect them to do exactly that.
Sorry kids...Allen West Seat was stolen by voter fraud. He’s out!
Much to my chagrin.
God, do you know how much he is going to cry when he loses?
They surrendered it last night.
Only 85 Rino Monkeys voted for this sham.
170 Rats voted for this bill.
Who really runs the House GOP? It ain’t Bonehead.
The Hill reports he told Republicans he wont negotiate one-on-one with President Barack Obama anymore....
STFU Boner. You are a Poosy and an absolute disaster.
You suck so poorly that a double negative is the only way to describe you.
You didn’t talk to Obama in the first place and that’s where you lost any possibility of moving the ball downfield.
As it is, Obama is now in the position of making very public demands, moving the goal posts and he’ll start changing their colors.
You are screwed and I can’t believe how badly everyone is getting beat by this lightweight.
In short....You are a fag.
I call em as I see em, yuh bitch.
You are now Barry’s poodle and he can yank your chain anytime he wants.
GTFO of the Peoples House.
You shame the ground you walk on and are a emblem of derision.

Lucifer.
At this point I’d take Lucifer just to watch him torch America and give it the enema we need.
DONT BLAME US!...Go home and wallow in your glory...Write a book...do something constructive and live off of it....*S*...You'll starve to death!
I agree Cantor will be an amnesty pusher.
Yep.
The dems are probably blackmailing him with something.
What?...Change the Cowards Rule?....You must be crazy!...
The article has a mis-leading headline.
If one takes the time to read the article.
Bonehead is not trying to save face
He is trying to negotiate the terms of retaining his speakership.
By saying he will no longer go one on one with Obama,
he is saying his Rino Monkey deal making skills ain’t working.
So then he promises to abide by normal house rules.
3 days to read bills, etc.
Sounds like a desperate man trying to save his job. Not face.
Great...we have enough votes to unseat the spineless wimp, but not enough votes to oust the commie-in-chief working to destroy America. Talk about small victories.
I’m with you!!...Does that mean we’re not prejudice now?
I think that is going to happen.
I’ve never been a fan of Boener either but I found this on the web and it could get really bad really fast it this were to happen.
“The process for the vote is a bit complicated. For the time being, the only candidates for nomination would be Boehner and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The only way for someone to win the speakership is to win a majority (more than 50 percent) of all votes cast. If everybody votes, that means the winner must ultimately attract 218 votes. There are 234 Republicans in the new Congress, but if Boehner loses 17 of them, it’s enough to kick the vote to a second ballot — something that hasn’t happened since 1923.
Pelosi could conceivably win the speakership, but only if Republicans cross over to vote for her or if enough Republicans actually abstain from voting.”
With as many spineless Republicans in the House I could this nightmare happening.
The speaker of the house is not required to be a representative of that body. It can be anyone the membership chooses.
The congress convenes on January 20. We have 17 days to make them listen!
I think that you might be wrong- This current Congress is gone in about 1/2 hour Eastern time. I really don't know what "convenes" means technically, but the next Congress starts 01/03/2013, and their first order of business is to "chuse" a speaker. ( Buckwheat will be Immaculated 01/20/2013)
I wonder if electing a democrat speaker while the republicans have the majority would in a sense neuter the speaker's role and dilute the power of that position. It seems to me that we'd be no worse off.
You don't know what you're talking about. Go ahead, get a Dem in that position. Probably what the Dems were really after all along, never mind the blasted fiscal cliff.
I’ve already contacted my Congresscritters, but I don’t think a Rat speaker would help anything- He/she would have the same power as Reid in the Senate to control the items to be voted on or not, and that would be a total disaster.
We need a Conservative Speaker, and a Conservative Party. The Republican Party has proven it’s impotence, and needs to be obliterated completely and replaced.
“It seems to me that we’d be no worse off.”
Sigh. I was screaming about this when everyone was fixated on the presidency. House and Senate are more important. This removes the last check on Obama’s power.
“Why have 2 parties now!?”
For the same reason the Soviet Union had elections. So a scripted, totalitarian system can pretend to be representative and feign consent of the governed.
“The Republican Party has proven its impotence, and needs to be obliterated completely and replaced.”
Agreed.
Little peek into just how much Republicans are like Democrats are like unaccountable government bureaucrats. John Boehner became Speaker of the House simply, merely and as it turns out tragically because he was “next in line.” His qualifications and skills for the position were not factors in his ascending to two heart beats away from being President. He was just the next guy in line.
From his lips to God’s ears. Please make it so.
Cantor is a favorite of K Street. He would be a disaster.
