President Barack Obama wont be able to enjoy much of a victory lap from his win over congressional Republicans on the fiscal cliff fight.
There are about 16.4 trillion reasons why.
Former Clinton administration official Alice Rivlin, a member of Obamas defunct deficit commission, says Obama understands the [deficit-reduction] issue but hes got to deal with his own left wing, which is not enthusiastic about doing it. The real problem is that Social Security has become kind of [a] no-no to liberals.
In a video message to his 2012 campaign supporters released Wednesday, Obama offered few specifics on how hed approach the coming fight. He reiterated his call for a balanced approach to deficit reduction despite a cliff deal that contains only a few billion in cuts and may add hundreds of billions to the debt in coming decades, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Mr. Transparency never does.
Obama field tested the new meme the other day: We’ve already cut 2 Trillion from the budget over the last two years. We already did the spending cuts!
Its impossible to cut entitlement spending.
Disabled individuals who live on $710 a month Social Security - I don’t see why they should have to give their COLA back when the politicians just awarded themselves a massive pay raise!
They don’t consume any luxuries. There’s plenty of fat to trim in Washington. Just don’t take away from the most vulnerable what they need to survive.

Mrs. RWA and I understand how we could increase our deficit by spending all our income and maxing out all our credit cards, we just have no plans to do it.
‘Zackly. There’s been no budget yt two Trillion was cut. How can one tell if there’s no budget? It’s like driving somewhere unknown with no road map, nothing to measure progress against. One can claim anything and sound sage.
“Its impossible to cut entitlement spending.”
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you will always have the support of Paul. This country reached a tipping point; 51% are Paul, and 49% are Peter. Obama didn’t just buy re-election with freebies; he has secured the future for the Dems with it. If enough (51%) people are getting freebies, the Dems will own government for the foreseeable future.
And claiming "We're almost there"
Or “We just passed it!”
