Harry Reid Threw Obama Proposal Into The Fireplace During Fiscal Cliff Negotiations by Meenal Vamburkar | 8:36 am, January 3rd, 2013 » 11 comments
Todays installment of Just How Bad Were Fiscal Cliff Negotiations? features one Harry Reid. According to a report in the Washington Post, Reid disliked one proposal so much that he tore it up and tossed it into the fireplace.
The point of contention, it appears, was Social Security. The Post reports:
There were now less than 36 hours until the deadline. The clock was ticking and we were not moving.
They werent moving because Democrats had decided that they had gone as far as they could. Reid and Obama had disagreed privately about what their next offer should be. At one point, Reid was unhappy with an idea that Senate aides said came from Obama to put the change in Social Security benefits back on the table in exchange for a delay in spending cuts and a rise in the debt limit.
Aides said Reid actually tore up the proposal and threw it into the blazing fire in his ornate green marble fireplace. The paper burned. Reid said he didnt want evidence that the idea had ever been considered.
Administration officials, for their part, deny that Obama ever considered including the Social Security change in the deal.

"I have a gift, Harry."
For someone who doesn’t like Obama , Reid spends enough time on that lip lock he has on Obama’s buttocks.
This is just more fiction to make the Democrats look like they care about the average person.
What the lamestream is suppressing is that Harry Reid lost big on this. His complete obstinance in bringin ny Repoublican legislation to the Senate floor finally came to a head last week. The McConnell call to Biden...and having to have him come back and complete negotiations (lousy as they were) is a stunning rebuke on Reid. Yet, not a word in the lamestream, only about how bad a guy Boehner is.
Reid is the story here...and it should be shouted from the rooftops that he is utterly incompetent. Obstructionist, corrupt, idiot.
OK...is this a signal that it’s time to start talking about the divisions among Democrats rather than putting every hissy fit we have in the GOP under a microscope?
It is quite possible. The Senate and the House leaderships of either party recognize that their power is co-equal with the executive branch. They do not like the president of either party stepping on their turf.
If the president makes a suggestion that is beneficial for their side’s members and will increase their power, they will be for it. But if it is dangerous to their power and control, then into the fire it goes. In this instance, SS reforms would diminish that power..............
Agreed...and conservatives lap up all the anti-Boehner media.
Conservatives should instead devote their energies to going after Reid IMO who doesn't lift a finger (while Boehner works on getting all kinds of legislation to the floor) but unfortunately the right does love to eat their own.
And contributed to global cooling warming climate change...
We’re on the same page. I really hate the press. Not even Fox’s esteemed ‘roundtable’ has made a mention of it. Reid has been a boor since (at least) 2008. 4 years, no budget. The press and the sheep. Next chapter..
Obama was willing to sell out seniors? just proves seniors as a class are NO INFORMATION voters.
Thanks for pointing out that McConnell had to go to Biden to break the logjam. I had read that but had not realized the significance.
since the MSM coordinates their questions and kisses administration butts, we no longer need a msm WH press corps.
Just internet live stream the press conference and we are done.
Harry is a petulant old fart.
