The ACU gave Kirk a 10 points more conservative rating than it did Brown, 60 to 50:

He’s a social liberal, as he openly admits, but is more fiscally conservative.

>> The ACU gave Kirk a 10 points more conservative rating than it did Brown, 60 to 50 <<

As this article points out, Kirk is recovering from a massive stroke, and has been out of the Senate for a year after only serving less than a year since being elected in 2010. All that ACU rating shows is that on 10 or so votes that he and Brown both made, Kirk might have voted the GOP party line more on one or two of them. It says nothing about their overall political positions, where Kirk is to the left of the RINO Brown, while claiming to be "middle of the road". Most of the groups that opposed Brown's candidacy (Planned Parenthood, NARAL, Sierra Club, Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence) have a track record of happily endorsing Kirk. It speaks volumes that they actually PREFER Kirk over an Obama Democrat.

>> He’s a social liberal, as he openly admits <<

He has never admitted to being liberal in his life. He claims to be "socially moderate" while voting to the left of many card-carrying lifelong Democrats on social issues like abortion. Apparently supporting partial-birth abortion is "thoughtful and moderate" in his eyes. I guess the 80%+ of Americans who oppose it are "too right wing" by Kirk's standards. I've love to confront him on this and show just how out of touch he is with the "middle of the road" in this country.

>> but is more fiscally conservative <<

Yeah, because we all know voting for cap n' trade is "fiscally conservative". Kirk wouldn't even vote to make the Bush tax cuts permanant -- the ONE issue where he claimed to be totally on our side. Kirk can lie all he wants and call himself a "Fiscal conservative", his voting record shows otherwise. It speaks volumes that the first thing this liar in the Senate did is provide "bipartisan" support for Dick Durbin's $30 million dollar Orwellian "food safety bill", after flat out pledging to Illinois citizens that he would OPPOSE letting ANY lame duck legislation come to the floor "before the new Congress is seated". Took him about 5 minutes after being sworn in during Dec. 2010 to break his campaign promise.

Brown's a RINO, but even he'd be an improvement over Kirk.

Brown is however a freak of nature—a freakishly good Republican politician for MA. There aren’t too many of him.

Oh, and ‘social moderate’ is common code.
