FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale
of our military and our allied military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

Fabulous FRiday
FAVORITES

Tell us about your
favorite New Years Tradition(s).

KISSING
The purpose of kissing a loved one at midnight
is to bring good luck to the relationship
for the next year.

EATING
Pork is a lucky food for New Year’s day
because pigs root forward when they eat.

Southerners believe eating black-eyed peas
on New Year’s Day brings fortune,
while others believe lentil soup is lucky.

Watch The Ball Drop?
Do you go? Or watch it on television?

A TOAST?
A toast is a ritual
in which a drink is taken
as an expression of honor or goodwill.

Or do you sleep in the New Year?

How do you ring in the New Year?

Remember, the Canteen is a family friendly place.
We welcome the military, our allies, and their families.
Continued prayers for the success and completion of your mission.
Prayers for your safe return home.

I expected to see Conor’s name on that heading. I hope and pray that he’s ok.

BAND OF BROTHERS

WORLD WAR II

Members of the 101st Airborne, June 7, 1944 at Ste.Marie du Mont, France

"This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say, "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say, "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."

KOREA

Members of the "Chosin Few", 1st Marine Division, December 1950

"Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words,
Harry the King, Bedford, and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered."

VIETNAM

FMF Corpsman D. R. Howe treats the wounds of Pfc. D. A. Crum, "H" Company, 2nd Battalion, Fifth Marine Regiment, during Operation Hue City.

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

AFGHANISTAN

Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division in action, Afghanistan, 2011

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more,
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let it pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as does a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean."

(Henry V, Act IV, Scene iii)

THE STRUGGLE AGAINST TYRANNY GOES ON,
AS IT HAS FROM TIMES IMMEMORIAL.
THE BAND OF BROTHERS STILL STANDS FAST IN THE BREACH!

They have our six!

Honor them for their Service and Sacrifice!

Good evening, Luv...did you get any snow?

I bought ice melt today and just finished scattering about 12# of it.

My main goal is to clear a path to the mailbox. My Mom said she tried to go retrieve the trash barrel from the street, but even tho she could follow the fence on the left, when she got to the street there was so much ice that she chose not to try it (thank goodness). I can put my spikies on.

My New Year’s tradition is stay home, and ring in the new year for each time zone for the Canteeners. And I can see some of the downtown fireworks display from the back deck.

I did good except falling asleep between Alaska and Hawaii. I woke up about 15 minutes after the New Year got to Hawaii.

We had some flakes this afternoon, but they didn’t stick. I think it’s snowing lightly now, but hard to tell in the dark. The sidewalks are wet...not white. I am just hoping that it doesn’t get icy and slick overnight. That would be no fun for my commute!

I’d LOVE to find some of those spikey things to put on my shoes when it’s icy!

Good evening, Sand...((HUGS))...that picture is priceless!!

It is amazing how animals seem to understand the vulnerability of little ones, and give them such leeway. The looks on both their faces are too cute.

Ya mean your local WalMart doesn’t carry them? Or Krogers?

Send me your shoe size and I’ll find some for you.
