Jerry Hartfield was still a young man when an uncle visited him in prison to tell him that his murder conviction had been overturned and he would get a new trial.

Not long afterward, he was moved off of death row.

“A sergeant told me to pack my stuff and I wouldn’t return. I’ve been waiting ever since for that new trial,” Hartfield, now 56, said during a recent interview at the prison near Gatesville where he’s serving life for the 1976 robbery and killing of a Bay City bus station worker. He says he’s innocent.

Give him a new trial, he may get death row again. So... do you feel lucky?

It’s the justice system, they will have all this straightened out in no time.

Jerry Hartfield was still a young man when...

This could have been a 'Law & Order' episode, with Hatfield being prosecuted by McCoy.

I didn’t read the article, but wasn’t 1981 a better time to bring this up?

The jury took less than four hours to convict and 20 minutes to give him the death penalty. The appeal that overturned his conviction was for a minor judge mistake. The murder was heinous and murder with robbery. Let him rot.

No arguments to you.
Just pondering if overturned in ‘80,
Why didn’t he speak up in 81.
was just puzzled by his procrastination , not the guilt.

It does sound like a major cock-up, but hardly a miscarriage of justice, except that he is still breathing.

Or maybe CBS is just lying. For example, the new trial could have been granted based on the death sentence: Off death row - no reason for new rial. Don’t know, just sayin’ based on MSM dishonesty.
