Skip to comments.Debate Begins Early Over Bill To Disclose State [Connecticut] Handgun Owners' Names, Addresses
Posted on 01/04/2013 2:37:16 AM PST by Daffynition
The names and addresses of about 170,000 handgun permit holders in Connecticut, now kept confidential by law, could be made public under a proposed bill that pits gun owners against would-be reformers in the aftermath of the Dec. 14 Newtown school massacre.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Stephen D. Dargan, D-West Haven, co-chairman of the legislature's public safety committee, would make public the names and addresses of permit holders under Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act and would reverse lawmakers' decision to protect that personal information from disclosure nearly two decades ago.

What’s a handgun permit? These people should move to a free country.
Let it rip, Mr. Dargan, your addresses can be published too.
The leftist would-be tyrants cannot ban and then steal citizens’ guns without first embarking on a Big Media and Big Government propaganda campaign to demonize guns and gun owners.
The goal of this propaganda campaign is to paint gun owners as something far worse than child molesters.
I’ve been thinking about all this falderall...and I think it could lead to a law passed to require pistol owners to open carry.
170,000 pistol permittees on his lawn. Heh.
**I would like a list and map of all people that have or had mental health treatment in their past. I would also like a list of people that are on medications that may make them a hazard to society. God forbid my kids are near any of these nuts.**
**...Adam Lanza’s name would not have shown up anyway in any data base as ever having a gun. So how do you stop someone like this? I dare one Representative or State Senator to answer this question. I dare you. If you cannot answer it then debate is closed and you do not issue the names of gun owners in this state.**
An unintended consequence of such disclosure—gun owners are increasingly safe from home invasion, but those without become targets for crime?
I guess the Constitutional “right to privacy” is restricted to giving mothers the right to kill inconvenient children.
He has a nice condo in East Haven. Funny thing, at his West Haven Address the Google photo car stopped taking pictures just before it got to him. There is no gate, no sign, just all of a sudden no more pictures.
Another A-Hole,ok,post this on the internet,After you post the names and addresses of all the Jews, the Homos with Aids, all those Rich people who are not paying their Fair share, the Obese who are costing us so much money since we now have Obamacare, those who eat at Mcdonalds, the rich corporations like GE,Goldman Sachs,Citigroup,Morgan Stanley ,who just got their Crony capitalist tax Breaks renewed By Obama who said the Rich must pay their fair share, except the Rich who donate to them
He looks like Wormtail from the Harry Potter movies, doesn’t he?
Oh Yeah and a List of all the Women who have had abortions who Have cost us all that tax revenue
I was trying to think what that mug reminded me of, and I think you hit on it. "Kinko," without his day-job make-up.
and many even here want to give the government idiots right to say who is mentally sick etc, to put a TSA in government schools. ban government schools and all government except military , border control of illegals and dealing with international issues.
Leftist Stalin imitators like "Rep. Stephen D. Dargan, D-West Haven" destroy innocent lives wholesale with their lust for government power. "Rep. Stephen D. Dargan, D-West Haven" is in the same category of people as the worst of the bloody XX Century's governmental mass murderers; he holds the same view as to the purpose of government, and the relationship between the government and the citizen.
The really appalling thing is that as democRat Party petty tyrants go, he's a fairly mild example.
Check out what democRat Party Racist Petty Tyrant Ruben Diaz is trying to do in New York.
Yes; it IS a sort of convoluted remedy to publish names of gun owners. It actually places those without in a position of being targets for criminals.
Also criminals know where to go steal guns now. sue the evil news media
Under Connecticuts handgun permitting law there is NO regulation that prevents the owner of the hangun from openly carrying his gun now.
There has been a lot of misperception regarding that even among our local police officers.
It’s gotten to point that the Department of Public Safety(State Police)issued a memo to local departments advising them of tha fact.
How about publishing car owner names and license plate numbers. Car drivers are bigger killers than guns.
There was a discussion on WOR-Radio a few minutes ago about this. A woman who has an order of protection against her ex-husband has moved three times in six years, and now her name and address have been published and apparently a google map of her house.
One of the show hosts asked if people on food stamps should have their names published eventually. Don’t we have the right to know who is on the public dole?
The people in Rockland and Westchester counties should put this paper out of business today.
Someone needs to publish the name and address of all the newspaper employees like the one in NY.
Gun control video.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDlbg1VoMZ0
Sounds like a great opportunity for a Freep!!!
Konnecticut Freepers: let's Freep his house like we did Lieberman's in 2000!!
That's OK - we usually leave all of our lights off even when we're home to encourage intruders....
What is this idiot’s alleged purpose for making this info. public? The only one he gave is that a parent might want to know if their child was visiting a gun-owner’s house. What stops a parent from merely asking? I can see no valid or good reason to release these records.
My point was, and it has more to do with being a woman, is that I *want* to keep my gun concealed, so some yahoo, doesn't try to take it away from me; it's a physical struggle I would most assuredly lose.
Maybe Race would make a *guest* appearance. :)
Right, what stops a parent from asking if there are guns at the other parent’s house?
And what about scissors, bats, chainsaws, ginsu knives, heavy wrenches, etc?
Why, there are scissors and bats at schools. And kickballs, and locker doors. You could poke someone’s eye out with a piece of chalk or a crayon. The horrors!!!!
The politicians-—ALL POLITICIANS—need to feel the heat from this insanity.
Because they will push, push, push on this.
Especially on the women. Why do you think Gabby Giffords is in Conn. today? What does she have to do with anything?
The lesson of Gabby Giffords is that you need to lock up crazy liberals. As in Colorado. As in Newtown.
If I lost my kid at Newtown, why would I want to talk to her?
The Democrats did not even wait until the bodies of those children were even in the funeral homes before they started making hay about this.
And it was their own policies—thanks, idiot Biden—that caused these kids to be like sitting ducks.
I live in an open carry state. They ever publish my name and address as a gun owner i will be carrying everywhere.
Oh goody....this published registry will be modeled after the sex-offender registry.
We're being pushed into a corner.
Also, it's meant to intimidate gun owners.
We don’t disagree. Liberals think banning guns or certain ammo will fix the problem of mass shootings. They will stop at nothing unless they meet major resistance.
They do not understand logical arguments surrounding any discussion on freedom. I have tried. They simply must be stopped from eroding our freedoms.
Excellent point. We are at a tipping point on so many levels.
Something missing in this *paranoia* discussion is the fact the governor has limited funding to mental health agencies, therefore restricting help to those in need; and felons have been released early to save $$$ on prison costs/ and relieve overcrowding. Nice.
The climate here in CT is palpable. It’s disgusting.
As we all know, *we could substantially reduce gun crime by simply enforcing our present laws. If the resources were committed to convict and incarcerate every felon caught illegally possessing a gun, many dangerous felons would be incapacitated and others would learn to eschew guns. But we as a society are not willing to commit the billions of dollars that would be required*....least of all, from our governor who has put us in to unrecoverable debt.
Communist Fairness File.
I want Baraq to start the gun crackdown by sending the ATF into the Chicago ghetto next summer to disarm the felons illegally in possession of firearms.
Idiocy out of Hartford ping
I have been saying that for years. It's a privacy issue on BOTH counts.
I’ve got a CC Permit and I dont care who knows it. The abused women who got one out of fear of their ex have a different concern.
The Hell with the Privacy, they are using Government Tax payer money to fund these abortions,we have a right to know
Well, they are going to have to repeal the law that prevents gun permits being public....unless Napoleon Malloy circumvents it.
Law enforcement officials from a New York region where a local paper published a map identifying gun owners say prisoners are using the information to intimidate guards. Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, who spoke at a news conference flanked by other county officials, said the Journal News' decision to post an online map of names and addresses of handgun owners Dec. 23 has put law enforcement officers in danger. "They have inmates coming up to them and telling them exactly where they live. That's not acceptable to me," Falco said, according to Newsday. Robert Riley, an officer with the White Plains Police Department and president of its Patrolmans Benevolent Association, agreed. "You have guys who work in New York City who live up here. Now their names and addresses are out there, too," he said adding that there are 8,000 active and retired NYPD officers currently living in Rockland County. Local lawmakers also say that they intend to introduce legislation that prevents information about legal gun owners from being released to the public. The newspaper published the online map last month alongside an article titled, "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood." The map included the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. While the paper ostensibly sought to make a point about gun proliferation in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., the effort may have backfired. A blogger reacted with a map showing where key editorial staffers live, and some outraged groups have called for a boycott of parent company Gannetts national advertisers. Ironically, the newspaper has now stationed armed guards outside at least one of its offices.
