155,000 Jobs Added in December, Unemployment Rate 7.8%

A surprisingly uneventful report, as BLS reports that 155,000 Jobs were added in December, right on top of the 156,000 expected, and in line with the number needed to keep up with the growth in the population, or at least the Old Normal growth - in the New Normal only handouts matter. The unemployment rate was 7.8%, vs the 7.7% expected: who else is surprised that the rate is now rising with Obama reelected and when a lower unemployment rate means an earlier end to QE4EVA? The November unemployment rate was revised from 7.7% to 7.8%, just so headlines can proclaim the rate was unchanged, even though it was fractions away from a 7.9% print, compared to November initial 7.7%.

I love the front page paragraph on FoxBusiness:The Labor Department reports non-farm payrolls increased by 155,000 in December, beating expectations of an increase of 150,000. The unemployment rate held steady at 7.8%, compared to expectations of 7.7%. November’s jobless rate was revised up by 0.1 percentage point to 7.8%.

The unemployment rate held steady at 7.8%,

Held steady, because last month was raised a 10th of a point. How can they report that with a straight face (not that they don't do it every month).

The economists were right for a change? Maybe the world didn’t end in December, but this surely mus be a sign of the apocalypse.

I love that unemployment data is hardly even news now...not even in breaking news. We will see numbers at this level or worse for 4-5 year to come at a minimum, because this is what the brilliant American people voted for. Unless someone can come along and successfully explain to the American people that we have slid into an unsustainable European welfare state and why that is bad, this will last a lot longer than 4-5 years. High unemployment is no longer news. So sad.

They’ll do the same manipulation with the economic growth stats to keep from having to admit we’re in another recession/depression.

That 7.8 figure is crap and everyone knows it.

Yep, the U6 and the total number of people employed now vs 2008.

Those are the figures that tell the truth.

Welcome to the new normal — unemployment above 7% because no one wants to hire and take on all the cost, regulatory burden and potential litigation.

I’m just waiting for the February report - after we scrub out all the seasonal hiring.

Yes Baraq’s new normal.
Why work when the govt will give you sustenance?
Why create jobs when the govt will take most of your profits?

The November unemployment rate was revised from 7.7% to 7.8%

So, in essence, the percentage hadn't really changed for several months.

But, the Admin and MSM ballyhooed that 7.7%.

Now, we find out it wasn't really 7.7% after all.
