WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — Waterbury's police chief has halted permits for gun shows, saying he's concerned a firearm purchased in his city might one day be used in a mass shooting.
The Republican-American reports that Police Superintendent Michael Gugliotti imposed a moratorium the day after the Dec. 14 killings of 20 children and six educators at a Newtown grade school.

Or stopping airplane sales because someone might fly one into a large building?
One towns loss is another’s gain. The police chief should turn in his gun because it may be used to shoot an innocent victim in the future.
Or beer sales, because 'someday' someone drunk on beer may be that driver.
Hammers and blunt objects are responsible for more homicides than rifles. He should shut down Home Depot.
Let the lawsuits fly.
It it the SOP of the Dems
has there not been federal law suits over these type of “bans”?
There have also been cases regaring “pre-crime” assumption because it violates the presumption of the citizen. IOW this idiot has ASSUMED everyone is guilty.
Alas poor Connecticut you were once brave and are now a den for cowards and communists.
I read somewhere that the Lanza kid was a Vegan because "he didn't want to hurt any animals." Figures.
It is easy to laugh at this jerk with his politically correct grandstanding. Now if he had any real testosterone secreting organs, he might take a confidential tip from a therapist or social worker and “visit” some mentally deranged person who was planning or fantasizing mahem. No doubt he would be violating the “rights” of the lunatic, but if that had happened in colorodo, the Batman movie massacre could have been prevented.
I can just see a lawyer reading this and going 'Ka-CHING!' to himself, while trying to figure out whom he knows who can fake 'mental health problems' to go try to buy a gun at a gunshow - if they sell it to him, he can use it to show the gunshow needs to be shut down, if they don't, he can use it in a federal ADA lawsuit.
Spokesholes should know what never to say - if it's common sense, don't speak it out loud, as we've made laws that make no sense.
And whatever Mr. Police Chief - it has nothing to do with mass shootings and everything to do with you wanting those gun shows gone, and up popped an excuse to use.
and politicians would ban those if they thought it would protect THEIR position of power from the voter slaves.
This is only about personal power.
This “cop” wants to keep his power on the assumption it is his power to keep.
How does he get to decide such things on his own?
Doesn’t the town council run the place?
and all the while, you and I know full well there is an other deranged sociopath right now plotting how to conduct the next episode of random violence, with or without a gun, gun shows, or any kind of permit.
Did he also stop all movies that show how exciting it is to shoot people..The so called movie stars should be fined for being in such trash..
A New Haven lawyer was arrested for legally carrying at a Batman showing, post Colorado. The charges were dropped.
Most probably it would be an innocent dog or three.
I’m concerned that his department’s weapons will one day be used in the same manner. Hand them over chief.
What if the police chief’s gun is used to shoot someone in a botched raid?
Be real shame for an armed populace to defend itself, instead of waiting helplessly for the donut squad.
This is the very definition of tyranny. Someone in power, deciding that he does not like a legal activity, and simply using his power, without legal authority, to stop those he disagrees with from doing what they have a legal right to do.
Imagine what would happen if the unelected police chief decided to shut down a “Gay Rights” parade for the safety... because it might lead to the spread of AIDS.
This is intolerable and the Chief should be dismissed.
I completely agree!
I am so sad to say that I am glad my dear father is not alive to witness this.
