On New Year’s Day, several on-duty plain clothes officers were dining at a Belleville, Ill. Denny’s, when a customer complained to the manager that one of the officers was carrying a gun. The Denny’s manager told the officer she would have to leave or put the gun in her car, as guns are not allowed on their premises.

If any Denny’s in Houston tried that crap, they would be out of business overnight.
If I owned a retail business that was open at 3 a.m. I would definitely cultivate the local cops.
I was an infantryman, USMC, 81-85, Beirut in 83, and I saw more danger than a donut-chomping GUN CONTROL LOVING cop ever did or will, and Denny’s would boot me and never apologize. EVER.

Bullhockey. Being a cop or fireman isn’t even in the top ten dangerous jobs in America.
They feel it’s a slap in their face because cops are generally haughty and entitled. No doubt were they on the scene when a non-cop customer complained about being denied service for carrying, they’d consider his haughtiness suspect and taze him in the testicles to be sure.

Yeah, I’m gettin’ a bit tired of that line... “put their lives on the line every day.” VERY dramatic, and all so that they can retire after 15 minutes on the job at 80% pay and benefits. Despite my service, I have never once uttered the words “put my life on the line every day.”

I’ve looked at the numbers. They’re job is far less hazardous than others. Professional drivers for instance. Heck, I’m more likely to be killed in an auto accident than a cop is to be killed in the line of duty ...And another thing. I’ll respect those who earn my respect. I wonder how many cops walk up to a car they just pulled over for running 5 mph over and showed “respect” to the citizens who pay their salary, and their retirement?
They’d arrest the guy, keep the gun, and then drop the charges after it was explained to them (for the trillionth time) that carrying is legal. Oh, and they’d STILL keep the gun. My God! I will never forget the time a sow pig lectured me about my guns, and how I was unqualified to carry one. This was after a man armed with a carptet knife broke into my car in Alex’ VA, just months after I had gotten out of the USMC infantry, and this fat, ugly, sow had the nerve... Well, you get it.

There aren’t that many of them around. The Chiefs have to tow the party line but the line guys generally are very supportive of 2nd Amendment issues.

They put their lives on the line Everest, yes, though less to protect and serve us but to harass, extort, and smother us with an anarchy of laws. I’ve come to the point with the “War” on Drugs and the Nanny State that cops don’t deserve respect. They’re never where you want them to be, often are where you don’t, and can’t even get stomping the bad guys for the heck of it right.
Used to be you owed authority figures of various kinds—parents, teachers, cops, politicians, judges (who are politicians, of course)—deference. We no longer live in a socially hierarchical society. Maybe that wasn’t ever right, and men in top hats didn’t deserve it when bootblacks called them “Governor.” Certainly we can’t go back now, at least until our supposed betters are replaced by a new generation. Because the ones there now don’t deserve deference. They don’t necessarily deserve spitting in their face, either, so go on a case by case basis.
Yeah, I know, pizza delivery guys lead the list. Gheeze, get a clue.

More Guns, Less Crime.
Last night riding the subway here in NYC there was a cop waiting by the door between the cars (its a ticketing offense to walk between the cars) just waiting. Hey why not walk through the train to the empty car with the possibly dead guy that stunk like he had been rotting for a week? No. His job is to fill ticket quota’s.
And yes. all the cars were filed with one exception.
I said almost the exact same thing on a thread earlier this week. That respect is no longer automatic.
“put it on the line...” Yeah, them donuts will kill ya.
