Ah yes, I remember it well.

Ferdinand Marcos required all guns in the Philippines to be registered. The US media loved him.

I said he would confiscate the guns within two years.

One year Marcos confiscated the registered firearms. The US media loved him!

I said he will seize power within two years.

One year later Marcos seized power. The US media then hated him.

Actually Marcos seizure of guns came when he declared martial law.

He did not actually seize all registered guns either. He did force a re-registration, etc. We kept our guns, but these were not of prohibited types.

Gun registration and control in the Philippines dates back to colonial times. There has never been a right to own or carry guns there without government consent.

Of course, the laws have also historically been poorly enforced.
