Netanyahu is doing the best he can with an unpredictable and uncooperative Obama. There is no guarantee that this problem will be or can be solved during Netanyahu’s tenure. Obama will not risk war and has come to terms with a nuclear armed Iran. He has defacto imposed the terrifying peace of MAD on the Jewish state.
The ongoing election campaign in Israel, also, would be an issue. Netanyahu wants to be voted back into office, and threatening a war with Iran might be a drawback.
The Israeli election is now Natanyahu’s biggest concern. His greatest fear is that somehow he loses and will no longer be Prime Minister. If that happens he will leave office without definitively taking action against Iran. As the secular leader and defender of the Jewish people, he will view his political career a failure and that failure might have catastrophic consequences for Israel. Adding to Netanyahu’s torment is the fear that his opponents may be receiving large amounts of aid from American sources who want him out. It will be an interesting election.
