A Florida man just wanted ketchup on his Philly cheesesteak sandwich at Subway. When he didn't get it, a confrontation with the sandwich maker ensued, leading to a 911 call.
Now-former Subway employee Lawrence Ordone told TV station WFTV he was working behind the counter at the sandwich restaurant in an Orlando Walmart on New Year's night, when a man ordered a Philly cheesesteak.
"He (the customer) wants ketchup on the Philly cheesesteak and I have never put -- we don't even have ketchup at Subway -- I've never put ketchup on anybody's sandwich," Ordone told WFTV.
The restaurant chain -- famed for its "$5 footlongs" and diet commercials with "Subway Guy" Jared Fogle -- does not offer ketchup, according to a menu on the Subway website. Only condiments like mustard, mayo, vinegar and oil are available.

Did he get fired or quit?
What a greedy corporation, that poor deprived citizen is certainly due a large settlement for his suffering.
Who ever heard of a restaurant that refuses to have ketchup?
I guess the founder of Subway must have had some early childhood problem.
Don’t tell anyone in Philly, but sliced ribeye and wiz on an Amorosa roll with nothing else but KETCHUP is pretty tasty. Oscar Madison said it best: “I like ketchup - it’s like tomato wine.”
That is a little strange. But, still, anyone who want ketchup on a Philly cheese steak ought to be taken out back by the dumpsters and fluffed up a bit.
The local donut shop here doesn’t have ketchup. I don’t know if they’d refuse it, though. Not that many people, at least here in these parts, find that ketchup improves donuts.
As Ben Franklin said, “Ya don’t put ketchup ona Philly”.
(He would’ve said it if he had a Philly)
He fled the scene, so I’m guessing he was fired.
I don’t understand why Subway can’t have ketchup, but they don’t, and that’s the way it has always been.
I’ve carried my own packets once or twice, but I’ve gotten used to not having ketchup on my subs.
I think he was fired.
You would think that they would at least have some ketchup packets.
The closest thing would be the tomato sauce for the meatball sub I guess.

Being a southern boy, I have never seen a Philly Cheese steak, and I have no desire to even try.
That being said, no one is going to tell me what and what not I can put on my food.
Sure.
If you eat at my house, the steak will be medium rare and I will not serve A1 or ketchup.
Burly Detective: Come on, Harry. Take it easy.
Harry Callahan: Or this job, either. Having to wade through the scum of this city, being swept away by bigger and bigger waves of corruption, apathy and red tape. Nah, that doesn't bother me. But you know what does bother me?
Burly Detective: What?
Harry Callahan: You know what makes me really sick to my stomach?
Burly Detective: What?
Harry Callahan: Is watching you stuff your face with those hot dogs. Nobody, I mean NOBODY puts ketchup on a hot dog.
Who would put ketchup on hot dogs? I would. That said Subway does not offer ketchup at all. It is not McDonalds. (But then I never asked)
A Taiwanese woman told me that after seeing spaghetti on an American TV show, her family decided to try it. So they cooked noodles and covered them with ketchup.
Ketchup on a Hamburger, Mustard on a Hotdog, just as God intended.
lol That was funny.
Is Subway called GrinderWay in Boston?
???
Who eats a cheesesteak without ketchup?
Do Subways not have ketchup at all locations?
(I don’t frequent Subway very often, but if they don’t have ketchup I sure won’t be visiting one anytime soon.)
That’s why Harry got to carry the big gun....A couple of 44 slugs flying overhead would make anyone lose their appetite for ketchup on a hot dog. Ole Harry knew!
Ketchup is yucky - good for not polluting anyone’s sandwich with that crud.
Sriracha works on everything.
I have used Sriracha on rare prime rib, turkey, corn flakes, brownies...
Best Philly Cheese steak ever. They put Russian Dressing on it. mmmmmmmmmm
Who would befoul an innocent cheesesteak with ketchup?
Jean Fraude Kerry, but of course.
>> and fluffed up a bit.
LOL... “Don’t push your luck, customer, or you’ll end up in porno film”
While I love catsup with a variety of comestibles, I never put it on steak. And I love Subway’s Phill cheese sandwiches. You don’t catsup on it.
make mine ketchup and mustard on both. With a little pickle relish. yum yum!
So....putting Whiz on it is okay? I can tell you one thing. I used to love Cheese Whiz when I was a boy in the 50s. It was real then. Today’s Whiz is nothing like the original - it has a funny after taste to it.
[And, yes, I write this even with the understanding of the great fun other Freepers will have with ‘whiz’ ‘aftertaste’ and so on.]
I think I had a Philly cheesesteak a couple times, I guess it didn’t rock my world. But sometimes I like seared roundsteak with a thin layer of ketchup spread over the whole thing while it’s sizzling hot, and lots of black pepper. Yum.
I don’t know about putting ketchup on a Philly but I do remember the late Chicago columnist Mike Royko had a thing about people who would put ketchup on a hot dog. He felt it was un-American. I tend to agree with him. Mustard or hot sauce, onions and a relish does it for me.
like ordering a non fat philly sandwich.
——famed for its——
Lettuce sandwiches.

Lettuce sandwiches.
Oh and BTW......... on the subject of FRESH. Every thing there except the lettuce and tomatoes is brought in frozen. The bread, the meat, the eggs....... frozen
One of the most disgusting things ever was the sight of a broken case of Subway Egg portions scattered across the frozen food warehouse floor.
For us Southerners, ketchup (catsup anyone?) is a basic food group.
That said, ketchup on a Philly — a popular Yankee sandwich — is a bit odd.
Never been to a Subway shop, their sandwiches on TV advertisements look like the bread is made of soft, soggy hot dog buns rather than crisp, chewy, baguette-type bread.
No ketchup in the store? Obviously they do not sell American style french fries!
If you eat at my house, the steak will be anyway you like it, I will serve A1 or ketchup.
I grew up in Newtown Square, 10 miles west of Philly. I have eaten many cheesesteaks in my time, and enjoyed ketchup on them. I also like onions, sweet and hot peppers on them as well. Pat’ s and Geno’ s are not the best, IMHO. I once ate a bellyfiller at Larry’ s that immobilized me for several hours, but the family pizzerias usually made the best cheesesteaks.
I have NEVER had a hot dog without ketchup. Hot dogs without ketchup are sold in Cuba, Red China and North Korea. Oh, wait. They don’t have hot dogs in NORK. Any live dogs remaining are in fear for their lives.
Being a southern boy, I have never seen a Philly Cheese steak, and I have no desire to even try.

It’s one of the few things those yankees get right...Philly CheeseSteaks are pretty good ;)
Whatever the details, Ordone said he regrets his actions that led to his dismissal.
I grew up in Kensington, right in the heart of Philly and all I can say is What kind of a knuckle dragging barbarian puts ketchup on a cheesesteak?...Freakin’ savages
Do you know that by not eating ketchup you are depriving John Kerry's wife from making millions from the sale of her company's number one product, “HIENZ” Ketchup. Disgraceful I tell you, absolutely disgraceful!!
