For five years, he was known as the leader of the Free World.

But for the first several years of his life, Richard Milhous Nixon had a more modest title: farm boy.

Wednesday will mark the date, 100 years ago, of a winter day so cold that Hannah Nixon was advised it would be better to bear her fifth son at home than risk traveling in the chill to a hospital. That was the day a small, kit-constructed home surrounded by citrus trees saw the birth of the man who would become the 37th president of the United States.

Left just loves to portray Nixon as evil. But among his lesser known accomplishments he:

Halted the use of Rainbow Herbicides in SE Asia. Extracted us from a no-win war (one we refused to win). And saved Israel in 1973.

The EPA....8^(

But of all Nixon’s flaws...Clinton made him look like an amateur in the abuse of power and corruption departments.

Responsible for the EPA, OSHA and Affirmative Action.

Crank up those fires of hell a little higher, please.

Nixon also started the EPA and OSHA, instituted socialistic wage & price controls creating shortages, and worst of all took us completely off the gold standard resulting in massive inflation of the 70s.

I'm no expert, but IMHO without the groundwork of Nixon there'd be no BH0 and his healthcare takeover.

Yes. I was merely pointing out some of the positive things he accomplished. But he was hardly a conservative.

Sure wish he was still around - BHO would never have won against him. Anybody who was so hated by the communists, I mean Democrats, couldn’t possibly be all bad.

Were not most babies still born at home 100 years ago.

Nixon:
A Life

This book, written by a British former MP, struck me as fair. An interesting read. I voted for Nixon 3 times . . .

"Responsible for the EPA, OSHA and Affirmative Action"

You can add debauching the currency, beginning the process of selling our industrial sector out to Asia, and turning the GOP party reins over to the original band of neocons to his rap sheet.

Arguably every bit as bad as LBJ or Carter. Not much of a legacy.
