In Race to Fill Jackson’s House Seat, Candidates Court Chicago’s Black Clergy (Separation of wha..?)
NY Times ^ | 1/06/13 | STEVEN YACCINO

It is not surprising that a crowded field of candidates is courting the same kind of clergy support in a Feb. 26 special primary election to replace Mr. Jackson, who resigned his Second Congressional District seat 15 days after winning re-election in November. Now facing a short campaign sprint, those candidates say the backing of ministers and invitations to stump at multiple church services each weekend remain the sacraments of any good election ground game in the district, which includes parts of Chicago’s South Side and southern suburbs.

Like in many districts across the country where African-Americans are the majority, the Second District has counted black ministers among the most influential voices for decades. Their endorsements, trusted by many churchgoers, are traditionally seen as an indication of how those congregants may vote on Election Day.

But, but, but it is ok to campaign in churches if you are a Democrat......you don't have to be Black, just Democrat. The hypocrisy hits the highest levels whenever Democrats are involved.

Once a seat goes black, it can never go back.

If a white candidate campaigned in a church the IRS would be on said church like stink on shiite.

But, in theory, this would be the best opportunity for a conservative to win this seat, just as long as all of the other candidates running are leftist candidates. Right? Why must it, sometimes successfully, work for leftists whenever they run a single, leftist candidate in places where conservatives usually dominate political areas but run many conservative candidates at the same time=the left sneaks in a surprising political victory? Why the political double standard where it succeeds for the left, but fails for the right, over and over again and each and every time that it’s, seriously, tried?

I know you’re joking but MI-14. Gary Peters beat Hansen Clarke in the primary, 47-35.

I’m not sure how black the seat is now. The old 13th (Conyers) was 60.5% black (but only 306339 “pure” black; 313343 “pure”/part out of 519570 constituents). The old 14th was 60.5% black (only 325975 “pure”/332811 pure/part out of 550465 constituents).

Each seat needed to be 705974 for the 113th Congress.

I live near Chicago. Last night, on the local Fox news, I heard the anchorwoman mention about five of the democrat candidates, in that race. The race has five Republicans, but she didn’t mention any of them.
