Obamacare Guarantees Higher Health Insurance Premiums -- $3,000+ Higher
Forbes ^ | 1/7/13 | Sally Pipes

President Obama will deliver a second inaugural address later this month. He’ll no doubt reflect on what he’s done during his first four years in office — and on his signature healthcare law in particular.

Let’s reflect with him. During his first campaign for the presidency in 2008, the president promised that his health reform plan would “bring down premiums by $2,500 for the typical family” by the end of his first term.

Well, that first term is just about up. And health insurance isn’t any cheaper. In fact, it’s more expensive. Premiums have increased by an average of $3,065. And they’re about to go up even more, as Obamacare takes effect during the president’s second term.

At the end of 2012, Mark Bertolini, the CEO of Aetna, the third-largest health insurer in the country, warned that many consumers would face “premium rate shock” with the advent of Obamacare’s major insurance regulations in 2014. He predicted that unsubsidized premiums would rise 20 to 50 percent, on average.

BCBS Highmark here in PA....

38% increase for our HDHP Plan premiums this year.

And suddenly, smoking cessation products are no longer allowable expenses with the HSA Debit Cards. You wanna starve the beast via patches or nicotene gum (which wrecks your fillings, btw), you get to pay for it on your own dime.

Some dimwit has finally figured out they DO need smokers to subsidize their taxation drama....

Already hit at our home.

Our insurance provider sent us a letter that said - very clearly - that much of the increase they are adding has to do with now 40% of their new applicants have pre-exisiting conditions who now must be accepted and therefore higher medical costs to all.

Obamacare is a house of cards planned to drive buyers of insurance into “lower cost” nationalized coverage.

The BIG LIE that has largely gone under the radar is that the reason health care costs have gone through the roof over the last forty plus years is precisely due to government insinuation into what was prior to that a respectable private industry. It’s classic Hegelian Dialectic stuff. Government gets involved, screws things up, then suggests that the only solution is for (drum roll please)... more government involvement.

Going to insure 30 million more people AND force insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions at the same rate as the others...and Obamacare was going to reduce a family’s HC costs by $2,500. Only in (D)umboland...

Mine’s gone from $2900 (group) to $4200 (single payer)/yr, with ded/co-pay going from $500 to $2500. Who’d da thunk 0bummer’s a lying POS? Many of us knew back in 2007-08.

He was only off by a net $5500 a year and a majority of the Obamacare effect has yet to hit.

The program is written for failure. 10 years of funding for 5 years of benefits. Mandated included coverages as bait to gain support. The pre-existing condition portions kick in before the mandated coverage provisions. A penalty structure that makes it much cheaper for employers to dump employees rather than cover them. A revenue structure that will only support a static number of beneficiaries with under a very questionable set of cost conditions.

It is happening as they planned. We are hearded like cattle.

The final result will be that those who can afford it will buy a ‘private’ policy to pay for what the national plan cannot or won’t. Everyone else will suffer or die.

I was fooled too. My belief would be a lowered cost just like the military Tri-Care. This is government subsidized health insurance but the max premium for a family was $480 (now raised to $560) per year.

I got beat up on some forums so I just downloaded the entire bill and read it for myself. I stumbled unto free Republic as a result.

Good post. Absolutely correct. Teddy Kennedy, and the Democrats just couldn’t leave a good private industry alone. Had to governmentalize it to its detriment, and ours.

The only good government program there is IMO doesn’t exist.

That is a problem Dems have with passing O care.

Dems will claim that these rates would have went up anyway even WORSE without the “The affordable Health Care Act” , so it still made it cheaper than it would have been (great trick HUH??)

But lets say thats partially true, let ssay that they were going to go up anyway which they would have (how much we will never know).... it doesnt matter now, Dems own the new higher rates .
