BOULDER Several hundred people turned out for a vigil in Boulder for an elk killed by a police officer.
Those honoring the dead elk on Sunday lit candles, sang and told stories.
The elk was fatally shot by a Boulder police officer, who has been placed on leave. An off-duty officer suspected of assisting in loading the animals body into a pickup truck is also on leave.
According to the Boulder Daily Camera, organizers wanted to give people an opportunity to grieve, celebrate and find closure.
Your story reminds me of what the city manager in Eureka, Ca ditetrars ago. They had an old black bear at the city zoo. I don’t remember all the details but due to budget cuts they decided to get rid of the bear. So the city manager just sent a couple of guys over to the zoo and they shot the bear. Much outrage and hilarity ensued. Manager ended up being fired. Apparently black bears are precious around here. Who knew?
“ditetrars”
Damn iPad
What he did years ago
This reminds me of the youtube video where the hippies were cvrying over a fallen tree...
Boulder has always been Berkeley at altitude. My sister is a CU alum. Nothing’s changed since she went there in the late 1960’s.
What has the locals riled up is that the elk was a regular in the neighborhood, and it was shot by an on duty cop and later taken home and butchered my another off duty cop.
No police report was filed even though any cop must report any weapons discharge. The Game Commission was not notified either.
The Boulder cops have been under fire after other incidents lately, including DUI arrests of a detective who had been stopped 44 times, and also the head of the DUI unit who was so loaded she had to pull over because she couldn’t drive period.
Come on, people! They have hunting trips in Colorado so that you can shoot elk. Elk meat is very good.
Yep, local neighborhood elk was poached.
Looks like the cops have progressed from dogs to large animals. The local circus may need additional security.
Oh boy. Sounds like way too much projection going on here.

Not sure about CO but the penalty for poaching an elk in some states can be quite severe; fines in $K and/or jail time.
No dogs left in Boulder for the officers to shoot so they are going after the elk next?
I second that rule.
Now go out there and find some more elk stories.
I loved that one too. Crying about the “old growth”.
Exactly!
Madness.
Have you been to Boulder? It can out Berkley, Berkley any day...
I can see the press statement issued by Boulder PD later this week:
“We apologize for the fault in the killing. Those responsible have been sacked.”
And the following week, when another Boulder PD officer is suspended for shooting a squirrel:
“We apologize again for the killings. Those responsible for sacking the people who were just sacked have been sacked.”
