'Whale Wars' star sued for $5 million by Ady Gil ship owner, report says
Fox News/TMZ ^ | January 8, 2013

“Whale Wars” seems to be sinking into a legal battle.

According to TMZ, a new lawsuit claims Paul Watson, star of the Animal Planet series, lied about the fate of his ship, telling media that it sank after a run in with Japanese whalers. The ship’s owner Ady Gil alleges Watson actually ordered for the ship to be sunk in order to create publicity.

The lawsuit, filed yesterday in a Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that while the ship—also named Ady Gil--- was indeed struck by a Japanese whaling boat, the damage could have been repaired, however Watson sabotaged the boat in order to amp up the publicity.

He scuttled her because he wanted to keep up with a whaler rather than stay with the Ady. He should be sued by the owner (I thought the ship had been donated). That was a fine, fine boat and its loss was a crime. The pilot was pi$$ed.

PETA pirates are still pirates and should face Victorian justice (locked in cages suspended over the Thames til they rot through the metal lattice).

It's like tree huggers spiking trees in order to maim loggers just trying to make a living aka a quick death too good for the evil bastards.

I believe you nailed it.

If I remember right it seems Bob Barker was supposed to have donated $5 Mil to the society or the Andy Gil was donated, I had no idea, like you, that it was loaned by Gil.

if he sank it then it should be criminal insurance fraud.

at the least he will never have a vessel associated with him obtain insurance.

I certainly believe the Ady Gil was worth $5MM. That was an awesome ship and being part of the pirates’ fleet was a tragic waste of a fine vessel. That baby could do, what, 80 knots on a smooth sea?

He scuttled her. Same thing as “sinking her.” And there are *mountains* of videos, including a TV program on Animal Planet.

I wish there was an American whaler the PETA pirates would mess with—one manned by armed men who whisper real real real low and only once, “halt or I will shoot!”

and when they don't...well, lets just say the footage would probably be left on the cutting floor.

He probably did that because if he pulled into port his ship would have been arrested. (for those in rio linda, ships can be arrested like a person)

Now if the japanese whaler interpleades in the lawsuit they, in theory, could arest the proceeds. (there was a case where an action was for the arrest of “gold bars” of a shipwreck)

I've been told that it tastes like a cross between chicken and tuna and it's especially good served with a rich spotted-owl gravy. :=)

Umm... Yeah there are. The whalers.

Use of animal resources for legitimate purposes is not immoral, no matter what the PETA kooks claim.

Threats, intimidation, harassment, illegal boarding, assault, destruction of property, etc. on people engaged in a legitimate, legal activity is immoral.

It looks to me like the whale-huggers rammed the Japanese boat, not vice versa. If the hippies are too stupid to understand the laws of physics (Big Boat > Small Boat), then they deserve to lose a lot more than their boat.

That’s pretty much as it shakes out, Jack (How ya doin?)

They failed to negotiate a rule of the sea: When you are a <1 ton vessel, you yield to the 2000 ton vessel. It’s physics at work. Yes, the stupid idiot piloting the speedboat rammed the whaler.

The “admiral” then scuttled the speedboat. He needs to pay.

Isn't this kind of like suing the bunch of drunken teenagers you lent your car to for crashing it? Especially since Admiral Chubby included some of his own ships on his kill tally painted on the side of his flagship.

Okay. I just watched that video a few times, with the sound off. Looks to me the little black boat rammed itself into the “really really big ship”.

Also looks like the ship was trying to ward them off with some kind of large water hose. They refused to stop their ramming into the big ship and got hurt.

No I don’t think a whale is a puppy or kitten but I live on the California Central Coast and have had a lot of interactions with whales while out fishing. They are awesome animals and hate to see them get hurt. I have no respect or affection for the Sea Shepard group but I don’t think whale is a necessary staple in the Japanese diet. Just my opinion.

I don’t think it’s a necessary staple either, but that is not for me to choose. I live in Arizona. I eat beef shipped to me from Nebraska (and “sea kittens”). If you are not Japanese, it’s not for you to choose either.

As an aside, I don’t think these are the same whales you visit. This happened off Antarctica.

I find the show very entertaining. In my opinion, it is the best sitcom—reality show ever. Ships ramming each other!

As for the whales, although I’d like to try a whale steak, I’d also like to see them continue to exist, so whale steaks are always available. Tragedy of the commons....
