“Whale Wars” seems to be sinking into a legal battle.
According to TMZ, a new lawsuit claims Paul Watson, star of the Animal Planet series, lied about the fate of his ship, telling media that it sank after a run in with Japanese whalers. The ship’s owner Ady Gil alleges Watson actually ordered for the ship to be sunk in order to create publicity.
The lawsuit, filed yesterday in a Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that while the ship—also named Ady Gil--- was indeed struck by a Japanese whaling boat, the damage could have been repaired, however Watson sabotaged the boat in order to amp up the publicity.

I hear it tastes a lot like Spotted Owl.
He probably did that because if he pulled into port his ship would have been arrested. (for those in rio linda, ships can be arrested like a person)
Now if the japanese whaler interpleades in the lawsuit they, in theory, could arest the proceeds. (there was a case where an action was for the arrest of “gold bars” of a shipwreck)
I’ve never tried it but if it tastes like spotted owl it’s terrible. :-)

Use of animal resources for legitimate purposes is not immoral, no matter what the PETA kooks claim.
Threats, intimidation, harassment, illegal boarding, assault, destruction of property, etc. on people engaged in a legitimate, legal activity is immoral.
I like whales. I don’t kill and eat puppies or kitties either.

It looks to me like the whale-huggers rammed the Japanese boat, not vice versa. If the hippies are too stupid to understand the laws of physics (Big Boat > Small Boat), then they deserve to lose a lot more than their boat.

They failed to negotiate a rule of the sea: When you are a <1 ton vessel, you yield to the 2000 ton vessel. It’s physics at work. Yes, the stupid idiot piloting the speedboat rammed the whaler.
The “admiral” then scuttled the speedboat. He needs to pay.
