(Scroll down for video) A Florida couple faces hefty financial charges after refusing to give up their home vegetable garden, according to press reports in Orlando Florida.

The couple's home vegetable garden which is located in the College Park section of Orlando, is on the cutting board again after the city threatened hefty fines if not uprooted this week, according to a group for citizen’s rights.

Jason and Jennifer Helvenston announced that they are launching the "Plant a Seed, Change the law," program to protest Orlando's law against home gardens, saying it violates their constitutional right to peaceful use of their property to grow their own food.

Thank you for the voice of reason. Far too many of FR support busybody neighbors telling others what to do on their own land.

How about the rights of those who work nights and have to sleep days?

You are NOT free to do what you want with your own property

Neither are your neighbors. The reasons for restrictions are people who have no respect for others.

A little consideration of others can go a long way in solving differences and problems that arise between people.

One of our neighbors planted corn in their front yard several years ago. Grew high enough that you couldn’t see most of the front of the house and it attracted all kinds of critters you don’t normally see in the city. Interestingly, the following year they couldn’t get anything to grow there, not even weeds. Poor people ended up having to replace all the soil to a substantial depth but only planted grass after that.

In the neighborhood association where my mom lives you’ll get fined every month if you have a door knocker mounted on the door of your home, yard sales are illegal, you’re only allowed to water your lawn during certain hours of the day, cars not garaged cannot be parked for more than 24hrs at a time and they have the garbage cans with the computer that tells on you if you don’t seperate all the recyclables, and fines you automatically.

>”Jason Helvenston said. “Our Patriot Garden pays for all of its expenses through the food produced and healthy lifestyle while having the lowest carbon footprint possible.”

“It provides valuable food while being attractive. We really do not understand why there is even a discussion. The city will have to take away the house before it takes away our Patriot Garden,” the Helvenstons said.”

I stand with this young couple. Their small house is neat as a pin and so is their garden. The garden looks far better maintained than the broken up in need of repair city sidewalk in front of the house.

It’s stories like this that remind me why I will never live in the city.

Here in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of NC the big battle is back yard chickens. It’s quite common and allowed in most areas. They do however discriminate against roosters.

Yes. Just what the neighbors want to see, a garden in the front lawn. I saw get rid of it too. If my neighbor had a garden in the front yard, I would make heck too. Thankfully I live in a neighborhood with normal people who don’t do something so dang stupid.

I wouldn't want to live next to someone who has planted a garden in the front yard, while the remainder of the neighborhood mows their lawns, and tends to their foundation plantings and trees.

Thank you, comrade, for your compliance...

Wow. Those are some rules. However, your Mom agreed to those rules when she moved there. That is the problem with people. They move into places with Homeowner Association and then find out they don't like the rules....time to move for them or step up to the responsibility that you signed.

Wow - those are some nutty rules - a door knocker - ??!
And the garbage can that tattle-tales - so it is real in some places.

Politicians sitting around trying to come up with some really gnarly ‘rules’ for others.

Guess there’s enough folks who don’t mind at all, so they move in.
You’re not saying your mom hates it now - are you?
