The Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist group, is demanding that a southern Ohio middle school remove a framed photo of Jesus Christ. The photo has hung in the school building for several decades. The Madison Wisconsin-based group is citing an “unidentified complainant” in its crusade to have the removed from the public school.
The Jackson Middle School is a part of the only school district which serves the Ohio town. The demand from the atheist group to remove the framed image of Jesus Christ began as a local story in our rural region, but has since garnered national headlines.
Jackson Superintendent of Schools Phil Howard had this to say during an interview with Pete Wilson of The Telegram, the local paper which serves the region:
“I will follow a directive from a court, a judge, or a vote by our board of education to do so. But I will certainly not take the picture down because a group that knows nothing about the culture of our community wants it to be taken down. I personally support it being there and so does every member of our board of education.”
The Freedom From Religion Foundation reportedly consists of approximately 18,000 members. An excerpt from the letter the atheist group sent to the Ohio school reads:

Well, no problem. I hereby demand as a religious activist that such a picture be displayed In all schools. I have rights too. So it’s a draw. Now lets go solve real problems.

WEll, it’s a better argument than you might imagine. Kicking Jesus out of the school leaves them vulnerable to the enemy coming in. Gun arguments are completely senseless. Anywoay, it would have taken Jack Bauer AND Tony to prevent what happened the way we’re told it happened, or a similar scenario.
No Jesus, no prayer, no protection from the enemy; see Newtown. the religious don’t seem to be willing to make this argument.
If we have to prove God and the enemy exist, they have to prove they don’t.
Atheists are so funny. They “say” the don’t believe and yet the picture of some “fictional” person gets their undies all knotted. And yet it’s not just any “fictional” person that upsets them. Hang a picture of Harry Potter and they’d be fine. It’s only pictures of Jesus Christ (whom they consider fictional) that upset them.
Hmmmmmm, maybe deep down they do believe and they are afraid. Too funny.
They should have more respect for old photographs. There aren’t many true likenesses floating around. And we shouldn’t respect the rights of Christians who uphold the Second Commandment anyway.
Wow- Jesus is so powerful, that the simple thought of His name, evoked by random drawing of him, over 2000 years after he is born, STILL makes sinners feel like they are dying.

They want the photo banned in the name of tolerance.
Funny they want pictures of some hippie depicting Jesus to be banned so they can offend Christians and they want pictures of Mohammed banned because they don’t want to offend Muslims.
So much for freedom of religion in America. We’ve lost both the First and Second Amendments. Welcome to communism.
Many, probably most, atheists consider Jesus bar-Joseph to have been a real person.
They just his status as the Son of God to be fictional.
The Shroud of Turin is the only image of Christ that I am aware of. It’s not a picture or photo.
I’ve long seen copies of this particular picture of Jesus, but have never seen any description of who created it or when.
It used to be very popular in institutional settings from at least the 1940s to the 1960s, but today it has been somewhat overwhelmed by the huge amount of (for the most part still respectful) other Jesus iconography. It is currently about 90th on a GIS.
However, this being said, I wonder if a school could really irritate the atheists by putting on a display of “religious iconography from around the world” as an *art* display?
Since there is such an enormous amount of Christian art, and Jewish art that is inoffensive to Christians because it is shared by them, it would obviously dominate the ‘exhibit’. And because iconography is forbidden in Islam, a brief notation should be posted that they do not allow depictions of their god, people or even animals. And maybe in a small area in the back, put up a picture of the Hindu gods Ganesh and Shiva.
Not only would this irritate the heck out of the atheists as such, but it could show the kids fine art; and if the atheists demanded “equal time”, the school could ignore them on the grounds that they do have atheist art, as such, other than attempts to disrespect and insult the religious beliefs of others, “so do not deserve a place at the table.”
If they insist, put up pictures of Mao and Stalin, along with descriptions of the destruction and murder they wrought. “This is the ‘art’ of atheists.”
I'm pretty sure it's a fake, so no biggie.
