White House Misfires On Gun Control
Boston Herald ^ | January 9, 2013 | Michael Graham

Posted on 01/09/2013 6:32:35 AM PST by suspects

The position of pro-Second Amendment Americans is that gun ownership is part of the fundamental human right to self-defense, explicitly stated in the Constitution by the Founding Fathers due to an overarching political philosophy regarding the balance of power between the individual and the state.

The position of the anti-gun activists in the Obama administration is “guns are icky.”

The media consider them the intellectuals in this debate.

And so Fox News reports “White House In Gun Control Sprint.” President Obama wants to fast-track a stack of new gun laws before the lingering pain and horror of the Newtown, Conn., massacre fades.

According to the Washington Post, Obama’s task force has already blown past the return of the so-called “assault weapons” ban and a ban on high-capacity magazines. They’ve moved on to “regulations that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors.”

I thought the point of this White House task force was to “prevent more tragedies” like Newtown, as the president said when he announced it. If so, please re-read the last paragraph. Am I missing something?

“Universal background checks” — whatever that means — might or might not be a good thing. They certainly sound reasonable to me. But how would they have prevented Adam Lanza from shooting up that elementary school? He took a rifle that belonged to his mother.

The same with “tracking the sale and movement” of guns. I’m not sure about the constitutionality of forcing me to report to the government when I pass down my father’s shotgun to my son one day, but once again — this prevents another Newtown...

Totalitarian governments do not want guns in the hands of the proletariat. Its that basic!

It's not, and it wouldn't.
But you already knew that.

The point is they always over reach. This time we need to cut off the branch they are proped upon.

Of course, this could all be a negotiating tactic, ask for the moon, take a trip to the space station instead. The left will settle on bans or extreme controls over firearms they categorize as assault weapons and upon magazines over 9 or ten rounds. Furthermore, they will try to restrict large volume ammo buys. Rush aptly noted yesterday how they portray the “second amendment” as a hunting amendment. Of course it was not, they are trying to reframe the amendment to fit their notion of reducing the ability of the serfs to wage war in defense of the constitution. They got their foot in the door with the FA of 1934, augmented that in 68. It seems like they come out of their cacoons every 40 or so years like the 17 year cicadas.

Yeah, and if you stick together enough tiny tidbits that "sound reasonable" in and of themselves, you end up effectively banning firearms ownership. And make no mistake, banning all civilian firearms ownership is the goal, and it is the ONLY goal. And "universal background checks"is just an incremental step by which to find out who has firearms.

There ARE reasonable things that can be done......allow widespread CCW with no license. End "gun free zones" everywhere. Mandate MUCH longer jail sentences for possessing a firearm during commission of a violent felony. Retain and expand "three-strikes" laws. Make it easier to commit the dangerously mentally disturbed.

Obama is not a "two-steps-forward-one-step-back" type of liberal - he's a "full-speed-ahead" Chicago thug and is not about to settle for anything less than a total gun ban.

This will not end pretty.

Obama is a Liberal he doesn’t need a logical reason or any good argument for gun control....to the left it’s simply enough that THEY don’t like something. If the left doesn’t like something they destroy it....it’s a mission to destroy all that their statist “Religion” tells them is evil.

They are on a relentless “Jihad”......If it stands in the way of absolute power then it has to go. The Constitution has been one of their enemies from the begining as it lays out what powers the GOV’t Shouldn’t have(or as lefties say “Negative Rights”.) To them the Gov’t should have the power to do anything.

“Universal background checks”

Does that mean the shady guy that is selling stolen guns out of the back of his black van to felons, kooks and gang bangers will now have to run background checks since the government has declared them "universal"???

Obama's future prospects as a UN bonafide world government leader hinge entirely on the complete disarming of the United States populace.

The man brings the "never let a crisis go to waste theory" to new levels not yet seen in this world.

It would seem that of all the straws to draw during the time of man, we are the ones holding the shortest. I sure hope the story gets told in some way when it's all done.

This is the one that should raise the red flags. It is essentially what the United Nations tried to do worldwide in their Global Small Arms Treaty. It looks like the Obama administration is trying to "backdoor" this since they couldn't get the the treaty approved. How much you wanna bet this data gets funneled to a UN database?

“It looks like the Obama administration is trying to “backdoor” this since they couldn’t get the the treaty approved.”

The Phila newsradio station, KYW 1060, in its report on Biden’s task force, stated that Obama had charged the task force with finding ways to implement gun control and AVOID CONGRESS (emphasis added). Given the left leaning CBS bias, I thought that admission was very telling. An honest statement, who knew they’d do it!

What this article says to me is that the gun grabbers realize that they are in the minority on this issue. They thought the Sandy Hook massacre would sway enough of the public’s opinion to their side on the issue of gun rights to bring them to the majority position, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

So, once again, it’s not that there is a flaw in their thinking, it’s just that the issue hasn’t been couched in the proper terms.

An acquaintance who owns a private security firm and also is a high ranking member in a state guard told us they got a directive from the US government to prepare a training program targeted at implementing private firearm confiscation. He said beware they (feds) are planning.

Obama's future prospects as a UN bonafide world government leader hinge entirely on the complete disarming of the United States populace.

IF the White Hut clown can bring about the disarming of America he indeed will be elected King of the World.

Hussein's puppeteer George Soros and his henchperson Rebecca Peters have been trying for years to disarm America, and so far have been unsuccessful. They did succeeds in Australia however. Disarming America would truly be Zero's number 1 achievement, and would show the world what a fantastic leader he is. I look for the clown to pass illegal Executive Orders because the GOP led House - no matter how spineless they are - will never ever allow national registration let alone confiscation (although I would not bet against Boner caving after the fiscal cliff debacle).

From Rush Limbaugh Sites

March 15, 2010 George Soros Conspires with United Nations to Kill Second Amendment

In the video below, we learn that Rebecca Peters, director of of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), is working with the United Nations and governments around the world to grab guns. Peters and IANSA are funded by the globalist George Soros.

“Rebecca Peters was Chair of the National Coalition for Gun Control, which campaigned to tighten Australia’s gun laws in the 1990s,” writes the Umut Foundation, an organization dedicated to “Individual Disarmament” in “harmony” with the European Union. “Her research and advocacy helped bring about sweeping changes, including uniform gun laws across the eight states, a ban on semiautomatic rifles and shotguns, and a year-long buyback that destroyed nearly 700,000 weapons. Among the awards she received was the 1996 Australian Human Rights Medal, her country’s highest human rights honor.”

Prior to working with IANSA, Peters worked for Soros’ Open Society Institute.

Soros has dedicated a large percentage of his income gained from manipulating international stock and currency markets to push for gun control. He exploits the usual “liberal” useful idiots to push his gun-grabbing agenda.

We have to be living in the end-times.

There is some concern that Obama might try to Executive Order an Assault Weapons Ban by using an existing provision in the law that says the ATF can stop the sale of "dangerous firearms". He could direct the ATF through Executive Order to find that all Assault Weapons are dangerous firearms. The problem with this is that the ATF already tried this approach itself back in the Clinton Administration when gunmakers were skirting the AWB by making cosmetic changes to the guns. They got slapped down hard by the federal courts who said that the it was obvious the "danger" provision only reffered to mechanical defects. So Obama would be on VERY shaky legal ground if he tried this, and a federal judge somewhere (it only takes one)would most likely issue an injunction the next day.

if they’re so icky, and obama is so serious, i ant him to order the secret service to immediately disarm and remove all weapons out of the white house while he’s president.

i mean his daughters will be so much safer without guns in the house.

I’m still waiting for Obama and the DemoQuacks to identify what gun law — other than outright bans and confiscation — could have prohibited the recent mass shooting tragedies.

By the way, where the heck are all the GOP politicians to defend the Second Amendment right now? Why aren’t they taking to the airways with people who saved their lives and those of others by having a gun? Why aren’t they emphasizing the failure of the government to protect the people along the border and in the cities from the heavily-armed Mexican drug cartels? The silence from the GOP is deafening.

It seems that the fix already is in place for more onerous regulations on the matter.

So Obama would be on VERY shaky legal ground if he tried this, and a federal judge somewhere (it only takes one)would most likely issue an injunction the next day.

I'm not so sure about that; Obama and his allies have proven very, very adept at shooting down legal 'threats' -- just look at the eligibility issues and how, across 50 states, the federal courts, and the military courts no challenge has even bloodied his nose.

Given these successes in the legal arena, why should we expect an AWB to be any different?
In fact, imagine that a judge did issue an injunction or decide to hear a case, and then was killed by assault weapons... thus the judge becomes just another reason why Americans must be divested of their weapons.

Cynical? Yes.
Though I've found cynicism to be a very good guide in predicting what would happen in Fast and Furious "investigations": nothing of impact.

And the DEA doesn't launder money for the drug cartels.
And the FDA doesn't raid farms over the production/sale of raw milk.
And the ATF doesn't enable illegal arms trafficking.

The country's gotten quite weird and the 'tin-foil nuts' are sounding more and more like the only ones who see reality for what it is.
