To Sidestep Obamacare, Wendy’s Reduces Hours for Hundreds in Nebraska

Employees at various Wendy’s restaurant locations in Nebraska will work fewer hours this year, reportedly due to costs associated with Obamacare.

Under the new healthcare law, businesses with 50 or more “full-time” employees must offer health benefits to their staffers working between 32 and 38 hours. Non-managerial workers at Omaha-area Wendy’s will see their hours cut to 28 hours a week, according to local NBC affiliate WOWT. …

The number of employees in Omaha who will be affected by the decision is in question. The Huffington Post reported approximately 300 staffers, while WOWT reported 100 workers.

There are 11 Wendy’s locations in the metro area. …

I must admit that Romans 13 is one of the most difficult parts of the Bible for me. Imagine being a German in Germany in the early 40’s reading it and trying to obey it.

And what about our founding fathers? Were they violating it?

The smarties thought they would vote themselves free medical care at the rich guy's expense.

Instead they voted themselves three part time jobs with no benefits at all, three times the commute expenses, double the hours for work, less overall income, and a whopping fine for not buying the health insurance they can not possibly afford now.

My own daughter is a victim of this sh*t even though she voted against ObaMao both times. She really needs a full time job. First, they cut her to 39 hours per week, now to 29. In addition, working hours for two part-time jobs are very irregular, so she has the additional "fun" of trying to juggle one job which typically schedules her between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. and another which typically schedules her between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Try to get a decent night's sleep with that type of schedule!

Still, she considers herself lucky because her roommates are juggling part-time jobs which often want to schedule them for the same hours. Her ability to speak Japanese landed her the 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. call center job which causes fewer of these type of conflicts.

The Founding Fathers, as well as the Confederate States, did not violate Romans 13 because they had Governments they followed (in both cases Colonial or State governments declared their Independence from the Royal or Federal Government).

We, on the other hand, are left with State Governments that will never stand up to whatever Federal abuses come their way, so we must 'grimace and bare it'. On the other hand, our Government is defined in the U.S. Constitution, and if said Government egregiously attacks this Constitution (e.g., voids the Second Amendment), the requirement to 'grimace and bare it' is not so clear.

two/three jobs? There’s an Obama fix for that. The IRS will combine the hours from different employers, and inform the 2 or 3 employers that the govt considers the employees to be working full time, and that the employers must split the cost of obamacare for their employees.

Good points. The second amendment is VERY clear. Anyone in government office that violates it has violated his duty and no longer represents the government that is based on that document. He becomes a usurpor. His authority is nonexistent.

It’s kind of like slavery. You spend all your time working or coordinating your working or driving/riding to and from work. I guess God warned us in the garden after that nasty apple thing that it would be no picnic.

They may try, but any even slightly qualified tax lawyer will clean their clock in a New York minute.

Remember the IRS rules that allow multi millionaires Pelosi and Feinstein (Blum) (et all) to pay below minimum wage and evade Federal taxes can be used by Wendy's and Carl's. I've personally watched while it has been done.

Likewise, even if the idiot Congress and Judicial give away ABSOLUTE authority to IRS drones, the result will simply be the closure of those businesses and the loss of ALL those jobs, the guaranteed and unavoidable end result of socialism. Equal poverty for all.

These serfs have voted themselves (and most others) onto the collective farm permanently, and will suffer the predictable and historically recorded consequences no matter how much more viciously they impose more "this will finally fix it" Marxism.

This argument is moot because the Obamabots are already ginning up a Boycott Wendy’s campaign.

Just the threat of that got Denny’s and Olive Garden to back down. I suspect Wendy’s Corporate will be hauling this franchisee in to get his mind right in 3....2.....1

Personally I expect a retraction on this before the last NFL playoff game ends this weekend.

Don’t want to end up on that list of Unpatriotic Parasite Employers, dontcha know. No one dares to defy the Great and Powerful Obama-Oz.

We all knew there would be economic consequences to ObamaCare. Once again, businesses are a lot wiser than the government, but the government is the one calling the shots while the American people suffer the consequences.

It is likely that these employees whose hours are being cut are not employees of Wendy’s corporate. Let’s say someone might own a franchise that runs 15 Wendy’s restaurant locations. They could go to only 3 full time at each location, cover themselves and brother-in-law, and stay under the 50 full-time employees requirement. Wendy’s corporate can say that these are not their employees being affected by the move.
