Let me say on the record that I don’t really care about New Jersey. I know very little about it. But, I know this much: I don’t want to live there and I don’t want the rest of the United States to resemble New Jersey.
For me New Jersey is the Joe Piscopo character asking anyone and everyone “Are you from Jersey? I’m from Jersey.”
Also, I’ve never seen the TV show “Jersey Shore,” but still I don’t like it. And know that I don’t want the rest of the country to resemble it, either.
It’s the state that elected Jon Corzine governor. You know?
So I’m a Jersey hater- which is OK because I suppose if Jersey knew me they’d hate me right back.
So we’re even.
But that’s one reason why I’ve never understood conservatives’ fascination with Governor Chris Christie.
I mean, heck: He’s from Jersey.
In general, I’m not a fan of Republican politicians, like Chris Christie, who win elections in those liberal east coast states, like New Jersey. One day, I’m sure someone will prove me wrong, as an exception, but in general politicians who win state-wide elections in places like New Jersey and Massachusetts are the political equivalent of fishing lures.
Yeah, they’re very pretty in the water, they wiggle a lot to attract attention, they flash and gleam, but once you bite, you’re hooked. By the time you try to protest they have you scaled and gutted.
Conservatives know this about guys like Chris Christie, Mitt Romney and Scott Brown, to take recent examples.
Yet they still can’t resist the draw to fawn on the pretenders.
It’s a kind of a “conservative guilt” that guys like John McCain try to feed on. And it’s this guilt that has a variety of “conservatives” folding on tax increases and debt ceilings and elections in the pursuit of fair play and the can-do American spirit.
The “bipartisan” fairies from the news media then sprinkle “bipartisan” dust on the great pretenders, yuck it up with them, let them mug and preen on TV mostly because they know it drives conservatives like me crazy.
It also undermines our conservative ideals.
Christie, for example, appeared on CBS This Morning on Wednesday suggesting that the government isn’t doing enough about gun control.
Yeah, he mentioned it in the context of focusing not only on “gun control,” but adding preventive steps like mental health screenings, but he’s not stupid.
Mental health screenings are gun control.
That’s what the NRA says and they are right.
The “comprehensive approach,” which Christie advocates, is the “government approach,” which conservatives dread.
Christie seems to take a comprehensive approach to everything especially talking.
So, someone needs to remind Christie that he’s not Governor of the United States.
He’s from Jersey for crying out loud. It’s like a perpetual off-ramp on the way to somewhere else.
It’s a place where Jon Corzine was elected governor.
And while that’s not a very fair comparison for Christie, I’ll at least say this much in his defense: Christie makes a much better Democrat governor from New Jersey than Corzine ever did.
Look at how far it got Jiffy Jon.
We can only hope Christie will do as well.
And Snyder probably wouldn't have gotten into a gropefest with Obama a week out from a national election either.
There's no way any conservative could've won the presidency in November. The electorate in this center-left country wouldn't ever allow it to happen.
The orotund Rotund One definitely loves to hear himself talk and has an ego at least as large as his corpulent carcass.
If what we are seeing is the beginning of the build-up to foist the Rotund One on us as the Republican presidential nominee in 2016 we're in even more desperate times than I had imagined.

The reason conservatives are “fascinated” with Christie, is because he tells it like it is. He looks at a media moron and calls him/her a moron.
Conservatives are longing, aching, searcing for a conservative to run for office with this type of honesty, who also has the ability to convincingly convey the benefits of conservatism.
As Christie is not a conservative, he is not that person, but his standing up to the press and many of the “taker”-mentality-minded is refreshing.
Right out of college in 1966 I wss offered an interview for a job in one of the cities in New Jersey (I forget which one). I went there and on the way to the headquarters of the company I noticed the general ugliness of the place and particularly the boarded-up windows of homes along the street. It told me “This is a crime-ridden place.”
I went for the interview, was offered the job, and decided I would not live in such a place.
I shouldn’t have said “boarded-up windows.” These windows all had bars on them.
I disagree. Romney was a poor candidate who ran an aweful campaign. He was just a RINO and a not very bright one.
I held my nose for the very last time. FUCC.
Christie isn’t even a RINO..he’s more like a MA republican.
I lived there for 4 years, couldn’t wait to GTFO. There’s a reason it’s free to enter but you have to pay to exit.
Never touched income tax 6.9% and 9 % for over 500 k ,or property taxes highest in the nation.
Then he sells us all out by kissing Obamas ass.

I grew up in New Jersey, but left about a dozen years ago for Texas (it helped that my wife, a native of Mexico, hated the place). I echo what Zulu says about the state - it isn’t the same place it was when I was a youth (I’m in my early 50s). The state’s problems began, I believe, shortly after WW2, when people who were tired of the mess that their votes had created in NYC decided to move out, and NJ was unlucky enough to be within commuting distance. Unfortunately, these people brought their attitudes and ideology with them. Now, my parents were both born and raised in Brooklyn, but were thoroughly conservative - they are the exception to the rule.
I recently went back for 2 weeks to visit my mother, and I felt like a criminal driving around with Texas plates. Fortunately, I know where the speed traps are (everywhere), so I was careful not to get pulled over...especially on the way in and out, when I was carrying (yes, illegally - I subscribe to the old saw about preferring to be tried by 12 than carried by 6).
One story will illustrate why I’m glad not to be in Jersey: When my wife and I were on the way to Texas, we were listening to the radio as we passed the sign on the Delaware Memorial Bridge that said, “Welcome to Delaware.” I turned to her and said, “Now you don’t have to worry about bailing me out of jail.” Of course, I got the intended bug eyes and dropped jaw. She asked why, and I told her about Florio’s ban on magazines that can hold >15 rounds (which is, btw, still in effect - yes, a ban on a metal or plastic box with a spring in it, that a bunch of braying jackasses deem to be too large for some reason). She asked me how many I had, and I told her, “Oh, about 200 years in Rahway worth.” She turned white, the jaw dropped again and she became quiet (which is very unusual for her, trust me). A few seconds later she asked me if Texas had any laws like that, and I said, “No, Texas is in America.”
Zulu, if you are looking for a place to retire to, I would highly recommend Texas. No income tax, lots of space, people who are far more conservative than in NJ (although, on that score, you might want to avoid Austin). You can buy whatever guns you can afford, and get a carry license (CHL) without much trouble. Crime is lower because most people have guns, and as of the end of 2011 there are 518,000 of us who can carry. Business is booming, especially in the San Antonio area and south because of the fracking in Eagle Ford. C’mon down, we could use more solidly conservative refugees who can warn the rest of the people of the dangers of statism.
Actually I've always dreamed of conservatives moving into Austin and San Antonio and freeing the people there of their oppressors!!
Christie had to know that the Sandy bill was packed with pork. He said that the bill was “politcal” and it made him angry. Ok- so why didn’t he call out the Dems who packed the pork in the Sandy Bill(with a couple of Repubs, but mostly Dems). He came out screaming at the Repubs on TV, his Party, never once holding Dems responsible. Never once did he slam the Dems.
He thru his party under the bus yet again- but watch the GOP-E will elect him to be Pres Candidate in 2016....
Here we go again. The reality is that we have areas of our country that are not conservative — large areas of the country. They would never elect a 100% conservative or even an 80% conservative. So you get a Scott Brown or a Chris Christie.
So the question is, would you rather have Scott Brown or Elizabeth Warren? Would you rather have Jon Corzine or Chris Christie? Those are the choices. Is the fact that Scott Brown or Chris Christie in office somehow damaging the “conservative cause”? I don’t see how it is, given that the alternative is a flaming liberal Democrat. No one is required to like Chris Christie or Scott Brown, but don’t fool yourself into thinking that the alternative is a 100% conservative governor of New Jersey or a 100% conservative senator in Massachusetts.
And yet, they'll still wind up voting for his Rat opponent when the election comes.
I think Romney lost mainly because of the apparent improvement in the economy. If the election had been held 6 months in either direction, the outcome would have been different. If he had picked Christie as VP -- the outcome might have been the same, but the debate with Biden sure would have been more interesting! Christie's bluster might work well in 2016 if Susana Martinez or Nikki Haley is in the #1 spot on the Republican ticket. (That's assuming that Christie's health holds out for another 4 years.) I don't see him ever being elected President, although I have no doubt that he sees himself in the job.
I don’t think his cow heart could take the stress of a campaign, he’s a massive coronary waiting to happen.
Its pretty smart on his part as he will be re-elected easily by doing this, he sees the National polls on O versus congressional Republicans and it is even grimmer in his lib state, joining the 'whip the GOP House/Tea party' club will make him a popular hero there.
Who knows what his intentions are for 2016 but he knows that if he lost this election nothing good will come out of it for him personally.
If he gets easily re-elected the MSM will make him a an bigger hero than he is to them now, and endlessly lecture the GOP to be more like him..
I dont see him getting the GOP nomination, Romney was a NE lib but he never publicly attacked a House GOP to get more $$$ for his state.
