A spike in gun and ammunition sales has caused a nationwide shortage that has delayed police training exercises and is putting a substantial amount of weaponry in civilian hands.
Police in Atlanta, Georgia have been forced to delay training exercises due to a shortage of ammunition. The police department has put orders for more bullets on back-order, while officers are being deprived of the training that makes them capable of handling weapons.
When you cant get ammunition, it is very concerning, Sandy Springs Police Chief Terry Sult tells WSBTV. It affects our ability to be prepared. It affects the potential safety of the officers, because theyre not as proficient as they should be.
The Sandy Springs Police Department is facing a shortage of tens of thousands of bullets and is scrambling to restock. The neighboring counties are facing an equally dire situation, with both practice ammunition and duty ammunition in short supply. Douglas County Chief Deputy Stan Copeland predicts it could be 6-8 months before the back-orders come in.

Yeah, maybe the feds shouldn’t have tried to corner the market on ammo.
He's the guy effin it up for everybody.
The citizens are stocking up on ammo and the jackboots are running out. Win-win.
I don't believe all that they ordered was manufactured and delivered.
Can’t they call the EPA, IRS, Interior, HHS, Education Department, Social Security and offer to buy? All those agencies have enforcement power now, and are buying giant stockpiles of ammunition.
We’re saving the lives of dogs! Keep ammo out of the hands of police!
Dear Mr. Security Agent: A letter to law enforcement concerning gun control

Dogs nationwide are keeping their paws crossed !
If even one dog’s life it saved, it’s worth it...
LOL
No, but I believe they get first priority on production runs and that keeps the supply tight.
Personally, I think ammunition and firearm manufactureres should cease selling anything but revolvers and .38 ammo to the police and cease supplying wholesalers/retailers who do. After all, no one “needs” more.
Oh sure, blame it on the NRA instead of Obama.
The article also says,
"The federal government may have experienced a similar shortage if it didnt prepare ahead of time: the Department of Homeland Security recently ordered 200,000 rounds of bullets at the cost of $45,000 dollars. The ammo will be delivered to a training site in South California."
What did they know and when did they know it?
The citizens are stocking up on ammo and the jackboots are running out. Win-win.
thats ok the govt can take the paper IOU’s and put them in their guns...
Call me Skeptical, but this reeks of ammo regulation next.
Maybe if they quit firing a 100+ rounds to kill 2 unarmed people and shooting every dog they see, they wouldn’t run out so fast.
Interesting, but I call bullshit on this one, because we live not too far from a LEO only police range that is operating seven days a week, and into the night around 8:00 PM. We can hear the LEO practice from the ranch as well when we drive towards Moreno Valley from here we can see the police vehicles coming, and going from as far away as Los Angeles, and San Diego, Santa Ana, and more.
If they didn’t have the ammo then what’s all that LEO traffic, and noise?
The ammo you buy may save the live of my dog or your own,,, My dog and I thank you
That was my first thought exactly. What a way to legitimize regulation of ammo sales.
If even one dogs life it saved, its worth it... /Thread
ALL of this is so obviously staged. And I mean ALL of it.
dog, citizen, it doesn't matter to Chicago's Police Kommissar.
It is good to hear that they are running out of lead to pump into those pesky freedom loving taxpayers.
Sorry for being a prick - but people who waited till now have only themselves to blame if they cant get what they want
feh, they're no better than anybody else, tough...
I believe the military has first priority. The order placed by DHS was a one year contingency contract which could be renewed for 4 years.
You;re only stating the obvious. This has been planned for a looong time!
My thoughts exactly. The feds however won’t budge.
They don’t care about how individuals can protect them selves, just how they can project their power. If push comes to shove an EMP strike would be a blessing.
If cops would stop shooting helpless family pets maybe they’d have more than enough ammo.
Wow, look at this from AUGUST 15, 2012:
And this from SEPTEMBER 18, 2012:
http://www.infowars.com/dhs-purchases-200-million-more-rounds-of-ammunition/
And then Sandy Hook on DECEMBER 14, 2012..
Tough cookies. Talk to Obama.
bs, cops don’t practice much, maybe twice a year for the average cop.
I agree, but this *is* the Brady Center... blaming the NRA is pretty much what they do for a living.
Back orders for MagPul 30 rd. AR mags exceed one million now. ROTFLOL
Yes, indeed it does. Law enforcement agencies would not be running low... not yet. They buy in bulk though LEO specialty shops.
Thanks Travis (M)for writing what needs to be said regarding Mr. Security Man. The article has been circulated to my ‘circle of friends’. Keep the faith.
My first thought, Dogs of America rejoice!
“If push comes to shove an EMP strike would be a blessing.”
That is a sad but true comment. Would sort of level the playing field...
What good are bullets without powder, primers, powder and shellcases? Bullets are to cartridges as flour is to bread, as cement is to concrete, etceteras. When will they ever learn?
Matt, Outstanding work.
God save us from these FOOLS!!!
It affects our ability to be prepared. It affects the potential safety of the officers, because theyre not as proficient as they should be.
Oh, I don’t know, not having a lot of ammo, is a good thing. Maybe they won’t shoot so many family pets for “sport.” I know I feel safer knowing that they are unable to resupply! Next thing we need to do is shut down Dunkin’ Doughnuts.
You know, that’s not a bad idea. If the government is threatening gun ownership then a great protest would be for gun companies to refuse to sell any more arms or ammunition to government agencies. Starve the beast and its ability to do harm to its citizens.
“Theres been a whole lot of hysteria raised by the [National Rifle Association] about the need to stockpile guns because Obamas going to take your guns away, Caroline Brewer, a spokeswoman for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, tells ABC News. It may mean more gun owners are buying more guns.
Paraphrasing Chevy Chase from “Xmas Vacation,” no $hit!
“If they didnt have the ammo then whats all that LEO traffic, and noise?”
Maybe they have a stash? Or they reload their own?
“It may mean more gunowners are buying guns.”
Not much gets past the Brady bunch.
Required training and qualification using (and depleting) existing ammo stocks. Multiple departments using the range will keep it busy.
Also, some departments reload practice ammo.
Yeah, might be a good idea to buy up everything we can even if we dont need it.. if we buy it prices stay high supplies stay low and certain people cant get enough. Win win.
Works for me. I get mine in bags from Costco. If only I could get them to sell ammo.
Build more effing ammo factories, make jobs, it will stimulate the economy.
In WW2 we had a MASSIVE armaments manufacturing base.
