Biden Compares Gun Control to Car Air Bags: ´We´re Saving Lives´
Cybercast News Service ^ | 1/10/13 | Fred Lucas

Posted on 01/10/2013 6:28:00 PM PST by Nachum

Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday compared restrictions on guns to auto safety regulations such as air bags, by saying neither the gun nor the auto industries wanted regulations to save lives. “Well they didn’t want to have air bags. Well, guess what? We have air bags. We’re saving lives,” Biden told reporters before a meeting with several stakeholders on the gun-control issue, as he plans to craft a set of proposals for President Barack Obama by Tuesday, Jan. 15. The proposals are expected to include a renewed ban on so-called assault weapons, and beefed-up background checks.

Joe Biden is particularly dense ~ probably from failed brain surgery ~ but here he really blew it. Air bags work primarily because they contain what amounts to a SHOTGUN SHELL!

Guy doesn't want to protect young children in grade school but he wants high caliber low gauge ammunition in every car!

A sanctimonious/ windbag.

Must be nice to have armed body guards and work in offices with armed security.

We peons have to work in "gun-free" zones where we're sitting ducks.

The only lives they're saving are those of the criminals, lunatics, and jack-booted, ninja-suited thugs.

WTF is this idiot talking about... his analogy is stupid.... OK Joe how about we invent a suit that everyone can wear and if they are shot at a kevlar shield envelops them and they are protected? Now will you leave guns alone? No didn’t think you would.

Logic is just not a part of the Liberal mind.

That is why every one of their gun control attempts must be stopped it’s like Healthcare Obama and the lefties want universal government control, Obamacare is the first step to that end... Obama and the left want guns out of the public sector, whatever they craft will be the first step toward that end...

No matter what they say, it is all lies and it makes no logical sense to control guns...

We need a national call to ban insane people that would massacre the innocent and a ban on idiot polticians like Obama and Biden that would attempt to politicize the tragedy of Sandy Hook to push a political agenda.

Ban violent movies, Ban violent video games, Ban violent books.

Biden quote on abortion (Note that there are over 3,200 abortions per day in the United States):

"I do not believe that we have a right to tell other people that women can't control their body. It's a decision between them and their doctor, in my view. And the Supreme Court--I'm not going to interfere with that."

What about firearms, Joe? What about the Supreme Court decisions for women and men, affirming their Second Amendment RIGHTS, Joe??

If airbags save lives, why are car owners told not to put children under 12 in the front seats of their cars. Also why is it next to impossible to get an override switch installed to turn off the airbags?

What this country needs is some “Traitor Control.”

Our vice presidential clown is more right than he realizes. When airbags were in testing they found the government design (for an unbelted male at 30mph) was dangerous. It would kill children and smaller adults. Joan Claybrook told the testers to keep quiet about the dangers because we need the American public to think air bags are like instant pillows and not dangerous explosives. So Joe is right the American people will have to be lied to again to sell the snake oil of gun registration.

INCONVENIENT FACT: According to no less an authority than the peer-reviewed Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, countries with stringent gun control laws have higher murder and suicide rates than those without.

DOCUMENTATION: “Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide?” A Review of International and Some Domestic Evidence by Don B. Kates and Gary Mauser, Volume 30, Number 2 of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, pages 649-694. (To download a PDF copy of the journal article, simply Google the title. It is available on the web free of charge.)

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE: “If you are surprised by our findings, so are we. We did not begin this research with any intent to “exonerate” handguns, but there it is — a negative finding, to be sure, but a negative finding is nevertheless a positive contribution. It directs us where not to aim public health resources.”

INDIRECTION: The trick hoplophobes always use is to say that America has higher gun-murder rates than other countries, but many of those “murders” are criminals killed in the act of committing violent crimes. Compare absolute murder rates, and the result is “more guns, less murder.” (Source: GunFacts.info);

SECOND INCONVENIENT FACT: According to DOJ crime statistics, guns are used by US citizens 2.5 million times per year to prevent violent crimes like rape, robbery, home-invasion and carjacking, 99% of the time without a shot being fired. (Source: GunFacts.info)

THIRD INCONVENIENT FACT: “Assault weapons” (AKA semiautomatic rifles) are used in less than 1% of gun crimes. (Source: GunFacts.info)

QUESTION: If gun-free zones make people safe, then why don’t we declare the immediate vicinity of the President and Vice-President to be gun-free zones and send the Secret Service home? Or are gun-free zones good enough for our kids, but not good enough for our overlords?

METAPHOR: America has more private gun ownership than most other countries, so naturally there are more gun murders. America also has more hospitals than most other countries, so naturally we have more people dying in hospitals. Does that mean we should outlaw hospitals?

They will say there are even limitations for 1st amendment rights. Yes that is true. But those limits ALWAYS apply in public places, e.g.,can’t shout fire in a theatre. There is no limit to 1st amendment rights when someone is in their own home. Therefore there should be no limit to 2nd amendment rights when someone is in their own home. No registration. No limits whatsoever. as many guns as you wnat in your own home.

Local law enforcement can then apply reasonable limits in regard to public places when there is a compelling reason. They have been doing that since the days of the old west. The feds have no business in this. anyway that’s the way I see it

“we aren’t saying you can’t have a gun. we aren’t even saying you can’t wear a gun. You just can’t wear a gun in town”

Re Apples and Oranges.

In addition, auto makers fought regulations to force them to sell airbags. Gun makers are fighting regulations that would prevent from selling their products.

high caliber low gauge ammunition

Techically calibre and guage are almost identical, just different methods of measuring the same thing - the bore of the gun.

It's not just children but includes adults of short stature that are injured by deploying air bags. I've always wondered what would happen to a guy smoking a pipe?

Then there is the issue of an accidental deployment because of a faulty sensor. If the bag blew in your face as you were driving on the expressway next to a gasoline tanker or a school bus, there would be an accident, no doubt. Do you think a subsequent investigation would find fault with the "active safety equipment" or would it be called "driver error"?

The nasty part of this is we will never know if the system failed or the driver was distracted 'cuz the "black box" will faithfully record that the air bag deployed leaving no clue as to why it did.

Any thing mechanical or electronic, made by man can be expected to fail sometime. Space shuttles, airliners, smoke alarms, TV sets, burglar alarm systems, cell phones, the list is endless. Nothing is 100% reliable except Murphy's Law.

I'd rather drive with a five point racing seat harness and a roll bar.

Regards,
GtG

Actually, the air bag industry WANTED air bags.

Saying the Auto industry didn’t want Air bags would be like saying the Private Security Protection industry doesn’t want their handguns banned.

Anyway, parts of the auto industry loved air bags. It was a discriminator; some would have them, some wouldn’t, and the consumer would be able to choose.

It was the consumers that didn’t want air bags, but the government forced them on us.

Many lives have been saved. Some have died because of the air bags. Under the Biden, rule, since some people are killed by air bags, we should ban them, “if we can save just one life”.

No, he has the analogy wrong. A true analogy is this: Gun control would be car control - taking away the car. The airbags are analogous to the gun safety that prevents unintended shootings.
