A judge suspended the criminal case Monday against a former nursing student accused of murdering seven people at a small Oakland college, ruling that mental illness left him unable to understand the proceedings or assist in his defense.
Judge Carrie Panetta made her ruling during a brief hearing in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland, after receiving reports from two court-appointed psychiatrists who examined 44-year-old One Goh. The psychiatrists found him incompetent to stand trial because of paranoid schizophrenia, Goh's attorney said.

Why does he have to be “sane” to be put to death? Obviously, he didn’t give the victims a choice.
The “Mental Illness” excuse causes more harm than assault weapons (whatever) do. Mental illness is never an excuse to kill people.
