SAN DIEGOStrawberry growers are covering their crops while San Diego zookeepers are turning on heaters for the chimpanzees as Southern California braces for a cold snap expected to drop temperatures to a six-year low.
The National Weather Service said Thursday that a low pressure trough sinking over San Diego County and parts of neighboring Orange County could keep nightly temperatures below freezing in coastal areas, the low deserts and inland valleys, threatening orange, avocado orchards and other sensitive plants.

Same deal when I was there as a student in the late 70’s, got cold, beach flooded.
People canoed down the Boulevard instead of biking, we had a blast.
Supposed to get down to late 20’s here Friday in central CA. Back up to 40’s and 60’s by Wed.
I guess chimps and strawberries weren’t advised about that global warming thingy. If they were just a bit more progressive they wouldn’t have that problem of freezing .... think global warming chimps and strawberries .... see, don’t you feel warmer already?
Meh. I just came in from riding my bike and it’s not that cold out. It’s 48. Maybe tomorrow.
We have been down to near zero almost every night here in Eastern California for the past month or so. Got down to -27 below zero three weeks ago.
ice here in snohomish county wa, be very careful on the roads tomorrow a.m.
That headline is racist.
When I get back, I'm turning down heaters and stripping off because the house is so hot.
Nothing like a little fire in the belly.
Send that cool weather east to Florida. 85ºF today. Running the a/c in January is no fun. Eeesh, my gardenias are blooming!
“From Monkeys To Surfers” - I thought it was another story about Nancy Pelosi’s dating life in high school.
Brrrrr!! Yes, it’s cold here!
I have to drive to the Bay Area tomorrow and just heard the Grapevine is closed...
I’m a wuss when it comes to cold, but I do Mammoth a couple times per winter.
My husband's family (Keay, McGhie) has been in Snohomish County Washington since 1889. The oldsters tell me it's always been cold this time of year.
well never mind then. everyone just go speeding along as usual, no worries.
Snowed in Portland this morning but only in the hills and gone ....for now.
I’m happy as long as we don’t have ice.
Freeze, grasshoppers! Freeze!

That is the current forecast for this coming Sunday due to a system moving up from the states.
And that is what Brrrrrrr.... is really all about.
wish it was going to be in the high 60s at least but they are calling for mid to low 50s!
This is due to more shifts in the JET STREAM. (the jet stream is one of the main sources of large scale weather patterns). HAARP is an attempt to alter the Jet Stream (and ergo local weather) but it has proven to be unpredictable, and tends to be self-correcting dependent on the magnetic field being stable.
The Jet Stream is fluctuating because of changes in the magnetic field. Scientists haven't dealt with this issue yet, but this large 'river' of wind responds to changes in the magnetic field. The magnetic field of the Earth is always changing, but it may be getting ready to 'flipflop'. It does this periodically throughout the eons. The changes will cause altered growing seasons worldwide, which will interrupt food production. Food, and land to grow food on, and land to be isolated from the hordes of starving hordes will be the premium, and our dear leaders are absconding with as much of the 'real estate' as they can.
This whole GLOBAL WARMING HYPE is because the scientists who advise the leaders of our world have forecast what would happen as a result, and it doesn't look good. Again, this happens periodically, so it's not like it's the end of the world. We could be planning ahead, and providing ways to ensure the food that is grown is distributed efficiently and fairly, so that the most human beings (and animals for that matter) survive. But we don't do that now, and they don't plan to worry about it then. The 'leaders' will just point fingers at everyone else, as they always do, while they sit in seclusion with full bellies.
Anyway, the leaders are all STEALING whatever they can from the peons, because they know this is coming, and is inevitable, and that only those with lots and lots of 'resources' will survive unscathed.
The 'haves' will live, the 'have nots' will die. WHEN the magnetic field will 'flip' , no one knows. But they see it coming.
Of all the 'catastrophes' that could occur (supervolcano, tsunami, earthquake, asteroid strike, Solar flare, etc), a massive drop in food production and distribution will cause much more chaos and death.
Oil, fracking, and C02 have nothing to do with the changes we are having. AL-Gore plans to be one of the 'survivors', no matter how many dead people he has to stand on. If he told the truth now, no one would give him any money.
It was an absolutely frigid 56 degrees here today. Terribly cold.
That’s what San Diego gets for electing a Red Diaper Baby as mayor - Climate Change, backwards.
Enjoy the freeze you leftist morons.
BK: I hope your house has a heating system. We need the few sane conservatives out there
Here in the I.E. in soCal it has been a chilly winter so far.
There are times at the same of year when its actually warmer in Anchorage Alaska than Florida or California.
I may see 40 and 50 degree temps in the next couple of days and rain.
Red Bob is an embarrassment. He's off on a bad foot with the city council. The blind leading the blind and at odds with each other.
Is that near Mammoth Lakes? The wife and I stayed one summer night there a few years ago. Almost froze to death.
The temp was recored at the Mammoth Lakes airport in Long Valley, about three miles south of the town.
A six year low. Oh my!
The Gorebull warming liars will discard this reality and again in 2013 claim that we had the warmest year ever.
It is cold up here in wino country. A younger friend in the wine business said this morning, many of their computer temp monitors in their vineyards were showing temps as low as the mid 20’ and no vineyard above 32.
It’s beautiful and sunny and cold here at the beach, with about 7 peaks covered with snow in view out my east windows. Love snuggling inside with a fire on, or bundling up with the kids outside. It’s fun to have a little winter in LA.
Nope, the mouse feature didn’t work.
