In the mid-80's Carl Palmer was firmly ensconced on the drum throne of the Supergroup Asia and they were at the height of their popularity. When approached to reunite with Keith and Carl, Asia's contractual commitments and international touring schedule made the reunion impossible. Nonplussed, Emerson and Lake recruited drummer Cozy Powell a veteran of The Jeff Beck Group, Bedlam, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, The Brian May Band, Suzi Quatro, Peter Green's Splinter Group & Thin Lizzy to name a few. Emerson, Lake & Powell embarked on recording new ELP album's and several tours until Powell's death in 1998. Since then, Carl has reunited with ELP several times, but continues on with Asia after 3 decades as well as his own band and countless solo projects.

Tarkus was ELP's second studio album, released in 1971 and propelled the band to super-stardom. Carl Palmer's drum solo on "Tank" is a rock music icon. The album has inspired comic books, video games and some pretty awesome stage props.
