Mali and France 'push back Islamists'

Government forces in Mali say they have regained territory from Islamist militants following air strikes by the French military.

Malian officials said they had taken back the strategic central town of Konna, which rebels had secured just a day earlier as they pushed south.

The news came hours after France announced it had begun military operations in support of Mali's army.

Armed groups, some linked to al-Qaeda, took control of northern Mali in April.

The islamists are still in position to take over one of the two last military bases that Mali has. The French are going to have to beef up their effort to hold out.

If this had happenned during the 1980 - 1990’s, we would be supporting Mali and France.

Not any more. The USA has been conquered within by Al Qaida.

Like all the major issues in our time, we won't be able to truly address the issue of Islamic aggression without honest and open recognition and debate about what underlies the problem. Much of the world is in an unrecognized global struggle with Islam, and all we are ‘allowed’ to say publicly is that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’ and ‘these are only radical fringe elements’. Radical fringe elements rarely have the numbers to allow the control of whole countries (e.g. Iran, Syria, previously Afghanistan, likely now Egypt - and others), organize terrorist attacks around the globe, infiltrate governments, and as in this story take over parts of countries - like Mali and the Philippines.

It's time to admit to ourselves openly and honestly that there are a significant percentage of Islamists who in their hearts would love to see a global Caliphate, and who feel that returning to the age of Islamic domination is a worthy and desirable goal. Many may decry the violence involved, but still support conceptually the goal. It is imperative that we publicly recognize that Islam is not inherently a religion of peace, has a history of military conquest, and that whether or not it exists peacefully in the world aside other religions is still an open issue that must be addressed at the most basic and fundamental levels.

We must hold Islamist religious leaders accountable for what they say, and ask them to publicly state to their followers that choice of religion is personal, that people should be able to change their minds about their choices (e.g. leave Islam if that is what they wish), that no religion has the right of world domination, and that all acts of aggression (not defense, which is another issue) taken by a religion are not acceptable. They should be forced by the global community to address these and many more crucial points.

Another push the the islamist. My concern is that we (Americans) get involved with yet another un-winnable war. Probably won’t happen though since Odumbo is a muslim and he certainly wouldn’t want to fight against his own kind.
