White House responds to secession petitions, calls for unity instead By Alexandra Jaffe - 01/12/13 10:01 AM ET

The White House has responded to a handful of petitions calling for various states to be given the right to secede from the United States, calling for unity and participatory government instead.

"In a nation of 300 million people — each with their own set of deeply-held beliefs — democracy can be noisy and controversial. And that's a good thing. Free and open debate is what makes this country work, and many people around the world risk their lives every day for the liberties we often take for granted," writes Director of the Office of Public Engagement Jon Carson.

"But as much as we value a healthy debate, we don't let that debate tear us apart," he adds.

A handful of "We the People" petitions calling for the government to allow various states to secede cropped up following President Obama's reelection. The White House has responded to all those which received more than 25,000 signatures within a month, the minimum required to get a response.

The states included in the response are Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. The Texas petition received over 125,000 signatures, more than any other.

>>”But as much as we value a healthy debate, we don’t let that debate tear us apart,” he adds.

And Obama sez:

When they bring a knife, you bring a gun.

If they punch you, you punch back twice as hard.

I won!

You didn’t really think that the Won would let the producers go so easily, did you? He couldn’t afford ‘his country’ if all the hard-working people moved to secession states!

What debate? What compromise? What honest negotiations?

This BS from the “we won” regime? Now do it my way or I’ll EO it?

Paying lip service to “We the People” doesn’t work anymore...NEXT!

They call for unity while Obama works hard to break us up into splinter groups and turn one against the other.

He needs all those flyover-state honkey Christians to work in his slave labor camps once his Chinese supporters call in their markers. Can’t do that if they’re living in the Republic of Texas or the Constitutional Republic of Free America (along with most of the oil, all of the veterans, and most of the industry).

Not since 1860 has this question been raised and raised so vociferously as since Obama and his Marxists took control. Does that raise any questions about where they are taking us? Does that tell you where we DON’T want to go?

What did we expect, really? These petitions should have been on one of the other sites. I imagine a lot of people understandably didn’t sign even though they support secession.
I thank him for his ;-) encouragement. He’s definitely an asset to the secession movement.

Debate? What debate?! Executive fiat never needs debate. The only “debate” is what color ink to go with on the autopen for the Emporer in chief’s siignature on the EO.

funny thing- they don’t mention Hawaii- the “home” state of ayatollah obama, who has possibly the largest secessionist movement of any state in the nation...

Love your tag line. When my youngest one was a baby, I rocked him to sleep singing slowly “I am a good ole rebel”. I love that song!

calling for unity and participatory government instead.

In a situation of irreconcilable differences, no unity is possible. Participatory government is impossible when one side is motivated by emotionalism, force, violation of natural rights, statism, and socialism, and the other is motivated by reason, freedom, natural rights, limited government, and capitalism

...we value a healthy debate...

"I won." - January 23, 2009

" I won't negotiate over the debt ceiling." - January 1, 2013

[Boehner] repeated [the spending cut] message so often, he says, that toward the end of the negotiations, the president became irritated and said: "I'm getting tired of hearing you say that." - January 6, 2013

Well compared to a “one-party rule” socialist dictatorship, courtesy endless executive orders and its support by the ruling elites and its corrupt, lapdog media... and the lack of any opposition party anymore since the GOP has decided on total capitulation on all issues from taxes to illegals to social issues...

Secession from the degenerate, socialist blue states is looking to be a more viable, more realistic option than ever. Amputating the cancer is likely the only route left for survival. That’s my view from Texas.
