Biden seeks game industry input on gun violence

Don’t worry, DC has it covered

In another futile attempt to curb gun violence in the Land of the Free, US Vice President Joe Biden is reaching out to the video game industry for ideas. That will give you an idea of how much crap the government has on the shelf.

Biden will meet with gaming industry representatives on Friday, as he explores cultural factors that supposedly contribute to violent behavior. Biden already met with other entertainment industry representatives earlier this week and he is expected to present his recommendations to President Barack Obama next week.

Although many techies and gamers tend to get offended by the notion that games somehow cause people to go off the deep end and commit heinous crimes, it’s understandable that everything is on the table.

However, everything is not on the table.

On Friday the National Rifle Association rejected a proposal to limit the availability of high-capacity magazines and assault rifle, hence it is very unlikely that the current administration will be able to muster enough support for its plans.

But it’s nice to see both sides of the political spectrum in agreement on at least one issue, as both parties seem to believe that video games contribute to gun violence. When people call for more bipartisanship in US politics, this is probably not what they have in mind.

The second amendment is not there for hunters. It is to protect the hunters and all others from a repressive government. Hunting doesn’t enter into it in any way. Go back to sleep Joe.

It’s funny....no one will touch or threaten the gaming industry. There are a couple of parent’s groups which have a fairly good idea of how bad it’s gotten, but CNN and MSNBC will never put up more than a two-minute piece on the violent game stuff each month. They’d never spend an entire hour or an entire week talking about it.

And a Government that believes in "redistribution" NEEDS to Control GUNS of ALL TYPES!

This reminds me of 1968 when the movie industry staved off federal interference in the movie industry by proclaiming they would “police” themselves with a rating system, the first which was G M R X.

Instead of cleaning up the movie industry it opened the flood gates to make more violent and vile sexual themed movies far beyond what had been produced in the US before 1969.

It is far, far worse now.

INCONVENIENT FACT: According to the peer-reviewed Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, countries with strict gun control laws have higher murder and suicide rates than those without.

DOCUMENTATION: Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide? A Review of International and Some Domestic Evidence by Don B. Kates and Gary Mauser, Volume 30, Number 2 of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, pages 649-694. (To download a PDF copy of the journal article, simply Google the title. It is available on the web free of charge.)

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE: “If you are surprised by our findings, so are we. We did not begin this research with any intent to “exonerate” handguns, but there it is — a negative finding, to be sure, but a negative finding is nevertheless a positive contribution. It directs us where not to aim public health resources.”

INDIRECTION: The trick hoplophobes always use is to say that America has higher gun-murder rates than other countries, but many of those “murders” are criminals killed in the act of committing violent crimes or criminal gang members killing each other. Compare absolute murder rates, and the result is “more guns, less murder.” (Source: GunFacts.info)

SECOND INCONVENIENT FACT: According to DOJ crime statistics, guns are used by US citizens 2.5 million times per year to prevent violent crimes like rape, robbery, home-invasion and carjacking, 99% of the time without a shot being fired. (Source: GunFacts.info)

THIRD INCONVENIENT FACT: Rifles are used in less than 1% of gun crimes. “Assault weapons” (AKA semiautomatic rifles) are used in a small fraction of that 1%. (Source: GunFacts.info)

QUESTION: If gun-free zones make people safe, then why don’t we declare the immediate vicinity of the President and Vice-President to be gun-free zones and send the Secret Service home? Or are gun-free zones good enough for our kids, but not good enough for our overlords? It is the height of arrogance and hypocrisy for politicians to surround themselves with armed guards while insisting that our children be soft targets.

METAPHOR: America has more private gun ownership than most other countries, so naturally there are more gun murders. America also has more hospitals than most other countries, so naturally we have more people dying in hospitals. Does that mean we should outlaw hospitals?

FINAL INCONVENIENT FACT: Since 1900, governments have murdered 262 million of their own citizens, and gun control was always the first step.

FINAL DOCUMENTATION:

Of Holocausts and Gun Control, Washington University Law Quarterly, Volume 75, Number 3, Fall 1997 (pp. 1237-1275) (To download a PDF copy of the journal article, simply Google the title. It is available on the web free of charge.)

I don’t believe violent video games or violent movies creat guys like Adam Lanza, but...

When I see Quentin Tarantino’s skinny white ass and the skinny white asses of the rest of Obama’s Hollywood donor base dragged up to the White House to be lectured by this moron and ordered to stop making gun violence look cool, I will consider the remote possibility that Biden is actually interested in reducing gun deaths instead of gun ownership. Until then, Molon Labe, sparky.

Yeah, like he’s going to hear anything of value from video game makers.

How about we sit the VEEP in front of an XBoX and play a few hours of ... oh, I’m not up to speed on the best choice ... one of the bloodier video games. I saw one on TV about an assassin that seem quite gory and weapon-filled.

And let’s have one of Biden’s aides quietly keep track of how many “digital murders” he committed during his game session.

Then tell us again how video games have no impact on impressionable young minds.

Of course they don't have any impact; only commercials and "product placements" have any effect on viewers/participants./Sarc
