I don't see any shortage. I've still got bricks of .22 as bookends for my reloading notebooks. ;)

I just bought 200 rounds of in-stock DRT 223 ammo from ATG a few days ago...it wasn’t even at an inflated price.

The good stuff, I bought years ago, BTW....here’s a hint...when any kind of ban lifts, buy often, buy a lot, but wait for the sales....you’d be surprised at what I got some of the $100 magazines on sale now for.

Three things:

1) The state provides incentives for gun and ammunition makers in the form of tax abatement, on condition that all guns and ammunition cannot be exported or transported from the state and must be used within the borders of the state.

2) If the guns and or ammo are to current standards, the state will assert reasonable purchase preference to in state manufacturers.

3) State manufactured guns and ammo would be sales tax exempt.

Try finding small pistol primers. I made the mistake of letting myself get down to a couple thousand and I can’t find any from my regular suppliers.

Otherwise, I’m sitting on a pile of components. Thinking about casting my own bullets and have recipes for emergency powder replacement. I’ve seen people reloading their primers on youtube, I hope it never comes down to that.

My whole family has been shooting a lot recently, it’s getting hard to find replacement ammo.

Can’t find primers or loaded ammo.

Buck-25 per round. Strictly for panic buyers so they can say they have some.

Damn! Why didn’t I think of that! I am going to go that and see if anyone ever notices.

Jeeze! Back when I was shooting the AR-50, plinking ammo was only $2.50 per round. I can't imagine paying $1.25 per trigger pull for .223.

I had to put 'em somewhere. I was running out of storage space. This isn't a big house. ;)

Lead and brass bookends. The books don't move.

I can just imagine the expected confiscations: “No, sir, he’s clean. Nothing but a house full of books and such.”

The local constablulary decline to come into my house. Ham radios in the kitchen, wires everywhere, sharp chef's knives, firearms in every corner, fans without finger shrouds.

It's a Darwin test. One day I'll lose. ;)

They’re buying it but you can bet they aren’t shooting it. I used to go out with 10 30 rnd mags full of 223. Now it would be $400 for an afternoon of zombie fun.

What fun is a 223 without dumping a 30 rounder or two?

I don't get it. Anyone with half a brain knew the price was going up, and bought early. I couldn't afford to shoot at today's prices. I'm plinking with ammo that cost 1/4th of what ammo today costs.

Exactly. Everyone’s seemingly in “buy & conserve mode”, right now.

Most assuredly. I practice with .38 not .357. Use 20-30 target grade 9mm.

Interestingly, I got a crosman CO2 pellet pistol that resembles a Colt Python. I make the same mistakes with it I do with a real pistol, so its good cheap practice to wait out the current shortage.

Primers are the things that become impossible to find whenever an ammo shortage hits. Given that primers will last for decades when stored in the proverbial "cool, dry place", there's much to be said for the practice of buying a few thousand, stashing them in an ammo can with some desiccant packs, and just putting them away for a rainy day.

Yep, I don’t look so stupid now, started collecting in 1997 & finished by 2000. Called stupid & tinfoil-ready a few times here on FR..../snicker

Over the years, routine random sampling (by myself and my Grandsons) from many, many different cases has shown no degradation in performance.

Seems like if you can read the handwriting (warning) on the wall, it is already too late.

America should see a ripe opportunity here to start building ammunition factories in every “red” state. Texas alone could have dozens, its not difficult to start an ammunition company, it just requires a chain of supplies, the right grade of brass to be pressed into rounds, the materials to make the bullets even if only copper and the components of the primers and powder.

Its capitalism at its best in a free country, build more factories before the Muslim in Chief forbids it.

I have a few thousand in a cool dry place, it’s time to use them and the replacements aren’t available. It makes me unhappy.
