As Washington focuses on what Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will propose next week to curb gun violence, gun and ammunition sales are spiking in the rest of the country as people rush to expand their arsenals in advance of any restrictions that might be imposed.
People were crowded five deep at the tiny counter of a gun shop near Atlanta, where a pastor from Knoxville, Tenn., was among the customers who showed up in person after the stores Web site halted sales because of low inventory. Emptying gun cases and bare shelves gave a picked-over feel to gun stores in many states. High-capacity magazines, which some state and federal officials want to ban or restrict, were selling briskly across the country: one Iowa dealer said that 30-round magazines were fetching five times what they sold for just weeks ago.

At a gun store in Casper, Wyo., late last month, a wall that typically displays about 25 military-style rifles was almost bare.
Can’t believe no one has snapped up that M1A1.
The price on those is through the roof.
I’d love one but not for $2000+.
Here in Texas, the week before Christmas it was so bad that the EBR wall was empty and they took to putting out old Mosin Nagants,Enfields and really rough Chinese SKS’s just so the walls would not be bare.
I just got off the phone with a friend who’s at a gun show in Ventura, CA. He says it’s packed and the ammo vendors are getting mobbed.
Good goin’ DiFi! Good goin’ 0bama! Now that’s some economic stimulus I can get behind!
Looks like a Mini-14 or Mini-30, of course they use the same action.
I was lucky this morning and able to pick up 2,000 primers this morning along with .223 and .22LR.
Try as the socialists will, they will never take our hunting, self-defense, anti-tyrannical weapons from us. There are just too many and they can't muster the forces to confiscate them all.
They can try their incremental approach as they do and have succeeded for many of their socialist anti-liberty causes over the years. Sen. Feinstein and others can forward their most radical legislation, but they have already loss with so many guns, mags, and ammo flying off the shelves since Obambi soiled our White House. Sales have increased some 3 fold since he was re-elected and just after the horrific Newtown massacre. People learn.
I read every day about those who have never had a firearm going out to buy them. I also read about the numerous people applying for CCW permits. I also see the various States relaxing their laws for the above. The FBI had to shut down their system some days back because of all the legit buyers requesting background checks.
There is no going back. Pass any law they want, other than some wimps, few are going to give up their weapons. And just what is the DOJ going to about that? Without the assistance of the Military or National Guard, there is NO way they can enforce it.
We are secure in right to self-defense. It's not going to change. We are the original freedom-loving people and we got there with our guns.
Last thought for the socialist controllers: If ALL guns were outlawed tomorrow and even All confiscated, do they not understand there would be an under-ground market for guns...much like drugs which continue to flood our nations? Yes, DU dummies, that would happen. They would flow in from Mexico and other countries. The bad guys would still have access to guns.
I don't think it could be done with that.
A simple question must be asked: Would people be buying all of these weapons if they truly trusted their government?
And a corollary to that is are they buying all of these weapons only to hand them over?
For the first time, I am hearing people talking about the REAL meaning of the 2A, and that is a good thing. The 2A was NEVER about hunting or sporting purposes; it was and is about preventing tyranny Judge Andrew Napolitano (one of my favorites) recently had a column entitled “The right to shoot tyrants, not deer”.
The right to shoot tyrants, not deer

I was at my small local shop this morning. I was there about 30 minutes after opening and there where already 6 guys there. Pistol ammo of the 9mm, 40cal and 45 ACP were gone except for one box of 45ACP for $46. His modern rifle selections where 2/3rds gone. There where some magazines left.
While there one of the guys behind the counter was worried that the government after failing to control guns and ammo would go after primer manufacturers. Looks like you are ahead of the game.
If liberals think they can confiscate 300 million guns, they should think rounding up 12 million illegals is a piece of cake.
Bingo.
But that logic will not stop Liberals or Obama from trying Amnesty next.
It is shocking that the American masses are clamoring for the Gov to take away their rights and in the next breath they will demand rights for non citizens.
It is madness.
Interesting to watch from a psychological point of view, but quite frightening.
While we cherish our freedom, I have long held the view that most men are pack animals.
While checking out this morning, the guy in front of me had just come from the gun show in Lebanon, PA. He said that before the doors opened, there were 1,000 people waiting to get in!
Get a CHL.
No more NICS checks.
Just fill out the 4473 and pay.
Look at the flasn hider and the gas system and one can till ins not a ruger product.
What do they mean by this?
The "nation" is not doing anything. The law abiding are still the law abiding. They didn't do anything wrong.
It's the corrupt government ruling class who desire to use criminal activity as an excuse to disarm the American people and repeal the 2nd Amendment.
My friend was at the gun show at the IX center in Cleveland, Ohio this morning. He got there early and said the place was absolutely packed, wall to wall people. He said that deals were taking place like crazy, inside the show and out in the lot (personal sales, friend to friend). I’m guessing that it’s like that all over.
If all current to date firearms, ammo and mags are “grandfathtered” with no new sales, I think we’d have an uneasy peace for a while.
We have enough stocks on hand to last for decades. Mags don’t wear out quick. Ammo lasts.
But if they criminalize any legal 2012 guns, ammo or mags, all bets are off. Many will not register, and will not turn them in, period.
Looks more like a Springfield Armory M1A with the NM stainless barrel. Saw one this morning for $2,000 +.
Sheer madness! And I don’t mean the buyers. I mean Dear Leader & Il Duce Cuomo among others.
I just checked some sites - sks’s are going for 800+
wth?
Other than the "accountability" part, this is a stupid remark from a gun owner about mental patients and facilities. I dare any psychiatrist or therapist to predict any of their patients will go ballistic. They can't do it. Psychiatry is not an exact science. People will go over the edge when not expected, while seeing their therapist because his parents are not the Cleavers or because he got picked on at school.
Yes, there are some indicators for some, but how to tell the difference between anti-social behavior and potential psychotics is a judgement call, which again means in-exact science. The potential crazies will ALWAYS be out there, not to mention Jihadists and other religous/political motivated crazies.
That's why everyone should be armed around mass gatherings like schools, malls, arenas, etc. I really don't have a problem with armed guards in schools, malls, arenas, et al, as the liberals cry about.
The world is going nuts. I say, let's arm ourselves against those nuts and minimize their damage when we get the chance. 2 to body mass; 1 to the head.
This sounds dumb, it may be on here somewhere, but what is a CHL?
“wth?”
I don’t think that covers it. More like wtf for sure.
:)
I saw an M1 Gerand for sale in my local store for $1,500.00 brand new, but that was a week ago.
It was a beautiful rifle.
Concealed handgun license.
You will be fingerprinted and photographed, but there are no more background checks after that.
They know who you are.
No need to hassle you every time you buy a gun.
I hesitated to do it but they already knew who I was from the military so what the hell?
I’m using my oldest ammo first. I’ve been shooting re-loads from 1980. They are accurate, consistent and no failures.
I can’t wait to go to Cabela’s this summer, I already have my first pistol picked out....A lavender beauty (:
Ya think, Pinch? Back orders for 30rd MagPul AR mags is over one million now. Just picturing a million brand new magazines filled with 30 million brand new cartridges makes me feels safer. :-)
There is not a semi-auto in any of the gun stores in town, except for a consignment AR, vastly over priced! Ammo, forget it.
Yup, makes me feel more secure. Oh noes, did I say "feel" like a liberal would say? Now I know I've lost my old mind. Har!
I was in a local gun store/pawn shop (Seattle suburb) several weeks ago. The only high capacity AR style weapons they had were in .22. A few days ago I was there and they had most of the wall filled up again with .223 and .308. A Bushmaster in .223 with no frills was about $2100 iirc. A S&W .223 no frills was ~ $1700. (I was looking for a .22 cheap plinker).
Agreed. Of course it was never about hunting. I just included that in my rant. The 2A has always been about self-defense against tyranny in the plainest terms. I could quote numerous statements, publications, personal diaries, correspondence between our Founding Fathers, but it be one of those long lists of URL's we all get tired of seeing.
A Magpul rep told my local store that three years of production already in the supply stream has been sold. He said if the government allows new production, expect prices to double.
Of course, at a street price of about $15-20, Magpul has always been a steal, and will remain so, even if prices double. Meanwhile, the government will destroy a few million Magpuls bought by our troops with their own money, because they value that magazine over the GI stuff.
While everybody else was buying up the few remaining guns (mostly "defensive shotguns") and ammo, I decided to stock up on brand-name handgun mags at current prices. While I usually buy extra good magazines for my handguns when I see them on sale, I figured this was a golden opportunity to buy them at current sane prices. Even if I have plenty already, at least I won't be kicking myself for missing the chance of buying more at the normal price.
Magpul's warning that they will double their prices if the government allows them to stay in business will be the SOP for other companies, too.
It was the best of times...
... vastly over priced! Ammo, forget it.
... it was the worst of times. ;^)

What about something which was purchased/took possession of during the first 11 days of 2013?
As an herbalist and purveyor of old home remedies I know just what to do. Get out to the range, crack a vial of gunsmoke under your nose and inhale deeply. Your head will clear right up.
People are just ignoring these senseless laws. They want protection from either the zombies (riots), the crazies (mass shootings) or their own government. I never thought I'd see so many anti-gun folks actually purchasing arms.
So agree. Few are going to adhere to a "grandfather" clause. The weapons are out there and few are going to relinquish. Makes me laugh every time I read about "buyback" programs and they get some 500 crappy POS's, like that is going to make a difference in the inner cities. Sure all the gang members were in line to turn in their Glocks.
Los Angeles was recently bragging about getting a rocket launcher (RPG), their words, in their "buyback". Turned out to be an old rusty mortar launcher that you couldn't pour enough water through to choke a lizard. Idiots, all.
I am encouraged that the populace is waking up. Unfortunately, it took too many massacres to get them off their American Idol rears. However, I say, "Welcome to the party, pal".
I don't really need much but I was thinking about getting some mags and other things that aren't the focus of this buying spree too. As far as what I want a Saiga 12 ga would really hit the spot but I don't think any are available right now and the prices are outrageous. These cur dog pols have accomplished raising prices through the roof without enacting a single law. Temporarily anyway.
Them too, but for clarity, it’s easy to use the turn of the year to our advantage. 2012 legal....always legal. The early days of Jan also, but it gets more ambiguous, exp. if Obama does an EO next week to ban transfer of semi-autos. (That’s the rumor.)
But for sure, legal in 2012, legal forever. Hang onto that dichotomy. Lots of crazy EOs and “laws” will come out in 2013, and “who struck John” will get confusing, depending on when, where and how something was purchased.
But for sure, legal in 2012, legal forever.
Me: "When did you buy it?"
Seller: "In '02."
Me: "And you sold it to me in '04!?!"
Seller: "Right."
I highly doubt he's going to try for an EO to do anything.
He may be a totalitarian, but he's not stupid. That's why he appointed dipshit Biden to oversee some worthless committee. Bambi is covering his ass while trying to look authoritative. He's a Chicago thug and knows there is nothing he can do about our American gun culture, especially after the recent USSC ruling. Ironic that part of his legacy will be as the greatest gun salesman of all time.
I could be wrong and he can try, but I think that is one EO that will be over-ruled by Congress. If not, we'll all just ignore it, like he/they ignore the Constitution.
It’s just a rumor tossed over my transom. But we sure do live in “interesting times,” eh?
Which means a HUGE load is on our shoulders.
We must NOT be the generation that dropped Liberty’s torch!
I don't know about the "destroying" part, but you can bet the goobermint won't sell them on the surplus market. They will probably be stored in big fenced-in piles for 20-30 years first. Same thing as the "Korean" Garands the congress ordered brought back to the US for sale to civilians. Seen any action on that yet? :(
DoD tried about a year ago for a voluntary turn-in of Pmags by the troops, which was mocked. Now they say slight dimensional problems with a new experimental USMC machine gun means all Pmags must be surrendered. Never mind that Magpul has already been shipping the Pmag V3 to fix that very problem.
Magpul wants to keep millions of troops and civilians happy. DoD just needs to keep a couple of big contractors of aluminum magazines happy.
New aluminum mags seem okay, but after a few years of heavy use, are no longer seen as trustworthy. Pmags seem to go on forever, and if one goes bad, it's pretty obvious, because it's broken into pieces. No guessing about the feed lips remaining in the proper shape, or if there are subtle dents in the aluminum body.
Really? Guess you're forgetting about Clinton's retro-active tax back to the beginning of the year. That set a precedence back when and I would surmise that Bambi's lawyers are looking at that. However, like I said above, I really don't think he would use an EO. He doesn't have the balls. Even the Chicago Mafia knew when not to push too far.
Biden is running point for Bambi and he is a joke. Have you seen any of his meetings with various pro and con gun people the last days? He's shucking and jiving and laughing while enjoying the center of attention.
I sincerely believe nothing will come of all this talk. However, more reasoned discourse is happening regarding school guards. I agree with that, but believe they should be clandestine (non-uniform) like Air Marshalls. I also think the "Gun Free Zone" sign policies should be replaced with, "Armed Victim Free Zone - Attack At Your Peril" or something to that effect.
After earning my BSEE without recognition from anybody, excluding the wages in my new job, I went on to finish my Master’s, which isn’t likely to be advanced for various and sundry reasons.
Still, I felt that I deserved something for all of the work, and so blew $1000 on my M1A NM. Younger eyes are better, but that weapon put 10 rounds under a quarter at 100 yards over iron sights.
I still have it, as I do almost all of my weapons, although I did scope it.
And it’ll be the weapon in my hands if I have to “go out”.
1980 dollars, I grant you, but worth every dime.
