White House rejects debt-ceiling move
The Washington Times ^ | January 12, 2013 | Dave Boyer

The White House flatly rejected Saturday the proposal for President Obama to bypass Congress in raising the nation’s borrowing limit, a day after the Senate’s top Democrats urged Mr. Obama to take that step.

“There are only two options to deal with the debt limit: Congress can pay its bills, or it can fail to act and put the nation into default,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said in a statement. “Congress needs to do its job.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, and other Democratic lawmakers wrote to Mr. Obama Friday urging that the president perform an end-run around Congress on the debt ceiling.

“We believe you must be willing to take any lawful steps to ensure that America does not break its promises and trigger a global economic crisis — without Congressional approval, if necessary,” the four top Democrats in the Senate wrote.

But Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the top Republican in the chamber, said abdicating their authority to the White House amounted to “the Democratic leadership hiding under their desks.”

BO has been very successful in blaming everything on Congress and escaping all responsibility of anything. Presidents before him were always blamed for Congress’s problems as being poor leaders.

Sen. Mitch McConnell:... “the Democratic leadership hiding under their desks.”

Say, WHAT!?

It's a GREAT deal more than that. It's plunging a dagger into the Constitution!

The Kenyan Kommie believes he will again 'own' the republicans in the upcoming debt ceiling fight.

Wonder why he thinks that?

Which begs the question - Republican leaders, do you have any pride at all?

Yep, I’d like to think this would put the screws to Dingy Harry and the Rats on cutting spending but it’s doubtful.

“There are only two options to deal with the debt limit:”

There’s one more option. Cut the budget for EVERYTHING to the degree necessary to balance the budget. And yes, I mean everything...

Sounds good.

Start with a budget bill that is balanced to anticipated tax revenues, ONLY. No deficits.
Then, hand that over to the Senate.

Next, pass bills to rescind funding for the Departments of Education, Agriculture, HHS, Homeland Security, and Labor. That should free up enough to cover some of the debt currently on the ledger. Hand those over to the Senate.

Third, hit the news show circuit with every influential pubbie that can walk without assistance to get the word out that they’ve done their part, and it’s time for the Senate Demon-crats to step up and do theirs.

The left is going to skewer the right, anyway. At least get some mileage out of it, by doing the right thing for the nation.

The thing is, the reason the Republicans have been making such a big deal about the debt ceiling is that Obama has been so monumentally irresponsible with regard to government spending. Congress causes these problems? Give me a break.

Bend over once, and you’ll bend over again.

Secure in this knowledge, Obama will use this fight to once again humiliate Republican “leaders” and dispirit Republican voters.

Only Republicans Presidents are ever blamed; Democrat Presidents are always given credit. My favorite moment of hypocrisy was when the Senate passed the Budget (the last one Reid, et al, have passed) in 2009 with 8,000 earmarks. Obama had just moved into the WH and was asked about his ‘no earmarks’ pledge. He said ‘well it is Bush's Budget’. Never mind that the Dems had control of the House and Senate and Bush wasn't the one to sign that Budget. Hypocrisy abounds when Obama’s Pravda-MSM is covering the story.

The federal government takes in around $2.5 Trillion in revenue a year. It has a $16 Trillion debt. Shut the government down for the next 10 years. All of it.

The deficit will be paid of in 6 or 7 years. Give people a 3 or 4 year tax holiday from all forms of federal taxation after that.

When it comes time to reopen it in a decade the people will realize they didn’t need it for much to begin with.

I don’t believe he’s rejected the option for a second. This is just PR. After some back and forth, he will claim that he has not choice but to bypass Congress. But....I think the more likely scenario is that Boehner will just fold like a cheap suit.

About the only "promise" the little snake has kept. He promised he was going to blame everything on GOP in STON and Address to Congress.

The thing is, Republican “leaders” want to raise the debt limit so they can continue to spend spend spend.

All this Republican tough talk about lowering spending is just a bunch of BS. They’re for lower spending, except the spending they want.
