LAS VEGAS — A 23-year-old contestant from Brooklyn won the title of Miss America in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Mallory Hagan, who hails from Park Slope, won the beauty pageant after tap dancing to James Brown's "Get Up Off of That Thing" and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying we should not fight violence with violence.

About as dumb a statement as there is. Words cannot describe how stupid this answer is. It boggles the mind that a mind can be as vapid as to make such a comment. The fact that she won tells us on how very and exceedingly far of this country has fallen. So much for public education.

Just as an interesting side note, we went to Bass Pro this afternoon. They were OUT of .22 ammo and a few others. The entire bottom of their counter displays were empty and the top shelves had large open sections. The hunting section was very crowded! But we managed to find a few boxes of what we were looking for and we got a nice sharp hatchet. (Marked something off the would-be-nice list!)

Most of them had horrible talent. Her tap dancing was the best of the the three tap dancers. A cute James brown routine and she didnt look cheesy. Until she said her little “don’t fight violence with violence” thing, I was ok with her winning.
Cracked up at miss Iowa: she said something like “I don’t agree with anything other than recreational use of marijuana.” Ha ha ha ha ha!
