Powell defends Clinton on Benghazi: ‘You can’t keep everything from happening’

Former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell defended current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's handling of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, saying it could've happened under anyone's watch.

"I think she's had a distinguished record," Powell said in an interview on NBC's "Meet The Press" broadcast Sunday. "And I don't think that this one incident--which is one of these things that those of us in government have been through many, many times where suddenly an action happens late at night ... I don't think it's a blot on her record."

"You're surprised," Powell said of the Sept. 11, 2o12, attack that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. "Somebody gets killed, something gets blown up. And then the after-action reports start and everybody wants to know who was at fault. Who was responsible? 'Why didn't you keep this from happening?' Well, you can't keep everything from happening.

The epitome of the Affirmative Action Jackson

Put out front as the “spokesman” in order to put a “diverse” face on Operation Desert Storm.

And for no other reason.

From the article,
“I think the Republican Party right now is having an identity problem, and I’m still a Republican,” Powell said. “But in recent years, there’s been a significant shift to the right, and we have seen what that shift has produced: two losing presidential campaigns.”

Powell ...will ...never ...get ...it.

The Republican party is having an identify problem, so I think General Powell is correct as far as that goes. Perhaps we should thank him for pointing it out. The problem, however, is that it is becoming a Democrat Party Lite rather than too conservative. Squeaker Speaker Boehner and his allies are seeing to that.

There is already one Democrat Party and we don't need another. We need a conservative party to represent those of us who are not, and don't want to be, affiliated with either of the two Democrat parties.

There will be multiple problems in creating a conservative party -- the "news" and entertainment media, politicians who are happy to be elected or reelected regardless of whether as Democrats or Democrats Lite, and even the indifference of many others who should care enough to work and help such a party through its birthing pains and into maturity.

If enough of us care and get to work, the prospects are not too bad. If not enough care, that's it: down the spiral drain goes the nation we knew and loved.

It can be done. We did it here in Canada. It started as a small grassroots party in the western provinces (mainly Alberta) known as the Reform Party, and evolved from there. Sooner or later, the Progressive Conservative Party had to adapt and concede to the REAL conservatives. Through many changes, which took more than a few years, we now have the Conservative Party of Canada, and it IS “conservative”. Don’t be discouraged by the “Perot experiment”. He was a flash-in-the-pan and all that was accomplished was splitting the conservative vote and re-electing Clinton. With real leadership behind a third party, it can be done !

Thank you! Can you provide, or suggest sources that provide, further information on how it was done?

You’re welcome. Give me a day or so (as it’s a little late on Sunday) and I’ll see what I can do. As food for thought, our current Prime Minister, Stephen Harper (who is well regarded on this site) was part of the original “uprising” out west :)

At first I thought Powell was just a latent racist with heavy leftist leanings. A bitter, old Jimmy Carter type.

Now that he just keeps showing up and saying some really "out there" things, I am entertaining the notion that maybe he's been promised a seat at the table in the new globalist order or thinks he's secured a place for his in the new power elite.

Thank you again. I am sure that many of us look forward to hearing from you and hope that we can do much the same in the U.S.

Well, he votes for zero twice - first time he admitted it was 100% race-based - but claims republican.

OK

Sans,

Believe it or not, that’s exactly the question Gregory asked that set Powell off on his rant.

But then Gregory just sat there, completely mute, and let Powell talk.

There must have been a half dozen points where Gregory needed to stop Powell with a question or a challenge, but complete zip.

Powell said things like “I voted for 7 straight Republicans” and “This is no longer the Party of Reagan and GHW Bush.”

But not once did he explain why he “stays” in the GOP.

Are they handing out free money to cockroaches or something?

Re: “We did it in Canada.”

Great job - but one observation.

Canada is 84% white.

The USA is 63% white.

American whites vote about 60% Conservative.

The USA is 37% minorities.

American minorities vote 75% for the Democrat Party.

With our current immigration rate and Obama’s “Executive Order” Amnesty, there is no possible way to create a politically successful Conservative Party.

I think Powell is as fed up with the republicans as I have been. If no one will stand for the right, the true right, what good does lip service do. I would like to think he is against the republicans 100 percent. But not against America.

Looks like Obama is finally using Tool Powell as a disinformation agent. He's speaking out in favor of both Hagel and Clinton today.

I was wondering when this would happen. Looks like Obama's been hiding Powell in his quiver for use in the 2nd term.
