As I wrote on Jan. 11, Jackson County Kentucky Sheriff Denny Peyman has made it clear that gun laws which violate the United States Constitution or the Kentucky Constitution will not be enforced in his county. On Jan. 12, he followed this up with a press conference in which he explained that a Sheriff's powers are predominant over the powers of federal and state agents. When he says these things he drives gun-grabbers batty because he says them with the conviction that rests on knowledge, and he has no intention of backing down. During the press conference, he took time to explain his powers as sheriff: I am responsible for the people inside this county. I am the highest elected official in this county, and this is the only opportunity the people have to speak for themselves and say 'this is what we want.' I can ask federal people to leave, they have to leave. I can ask state people to leave, they have to leave. ...[And] it doesn't matter what [new laws] Obama passes, the sheriff has more power than the federal people. He said that if federal gun-grabbers don't understand this, then "they need to go back and study it," because Kentucky "is a commonwealth." Peyman says he has been approached by liberals within the gun-grabbing world since he made his original promise of no gun control in his county, and he told them plainly: "You are never going to pull guns out of Jackson County." Sheriff Denny Peyman represents everything good and brave about America, and about the great state of Kentucky. He is a patriot, first class.

This is a textbook example of why I moved from Seattle to rural Kentucky in 2011.
Look for more parting of company along “red states” and “blue states” line.
Folks should take a hint with what had happened at the Golden Globes last. The movies that look like they are going to get “shut out” or close to it by “Lincoln” and Steven Speilberg cleaning up the Oscars won last night.
Presumably the sheriff could deputize all or most of the gun owners in his county.
I believe the constitution calls that a “well regulated militia”.
THe “fast and furious” guys would rather be in Chicago.
I was at Barnes & Noble yesterday and they had a lot of gun books on displays. Of course, I live in SC, but still, it was surprising. Guess they realize there is a lot of interest in guns these days.

Correction, WILL BE cleaning up on Oscar night for “Lincoln”.
VERY Nixon like! And I always thought that the left didn’t like President Nixon. Just wait (and it will happen) until the administration turn on their own because they are not pure enough.
I don’t think that’s safe to say at all. The bigger ans more powerful grow the feds the easier it is to be Lincoln, or Lincoln times n.
Our State is right next door and maybe it will rub off on all of our Sheriff’s or maybe the new Gov who I think is being groomed for a future POTUS spot.

It is very safe to say rather:
I am RIGHT to say that there is NO LINCOLN-LIKE person on the horizon.
Obama IS NO LINCOLN. Obama DIVIDES. Lincoln UNITED.
If some states can refuse to enforce the immigration laws, then states can also refuse to enforce any new gun laws.
I will never forget that time. I had people who should know better tell me that Elian was an illegal alien so whatever was done to return him to Cuba was justified. I told them they were wrong, how can a six year old who was brought here by his mother be an illegal alien, he was a refugee. How could anyone justify sending 100 federal agents to kidnap one little boy in the middle of the night and send him back to Castro when they won’t lift a finger to stop millions of gang members, jihadists and drug dealers from coming across the border from Mexico?
Lincoln united? That certainly seems a strange interpretation of events.
Well compared to what we are seeing NOW.
Obama has SET this country BACK in so many different ways.
You lost me at Lincoln united. He took by force, under the guise of stopping slavery. I’m a Canadian not a southerner, but it’s evident to me it was a war of northern aggression.
We don’t need a Lincoln, we need a Washington. When offered to be a leader of a military run regime, he turned it down. There is a man of principle and valour.
But even the founding fathers, during the time when the Declaration of Independence was being put together and the revolutionary war, the issue of slavery was an issue that was NOT going to go away and was going to have to take a civil war to resolve it once and for all.
I am looking at this from a USA history perspective.
Well, the slavery issue was going away already by time the civil war was around because of industrialization and other advances in farming etc.
It wasn’t about freeing slaves, they would be captured and pressed into service, that’s not freedom, hence the underground railway into Canada.
What gun grabbers don’t understand is that there are many millions of non-elite Dem gun owners who love guns just as much as those hated Republican/conservative gun owners. I know quite a few hardcore Dem gun owners and hunters who would not take kindly to some petty-fascist gun grabber trying to take their guns away from them.
